A step in the wrong direction

I don't think anyone has questioned your choices, I know I haven't. The problem is your blanket condemnation of anyone who does not stand where you do.

Exactly. I'm sure stilllearning (quite the oxymoronic username) contacted God and told Him how to think.

It’s that time of year again, and the pressure to observe all these “man made” observances.
Are you going to go along with it?

They may be man made but they are based on the life and death of Jesus Christ, just as Christmas is. I understand your concern that maybe too much of the Catholic church is seeping into evangelical churches but these observances are not unbiblical.

By acknowledging these days, we send the message that “all churches are the same”, and that doctrine doesn’t really matter.

I can see your point that it is a slippery slope towards ecumenicalism to give credence to man-made traditions rather than purely biblical foundations.

Traditions should not have more reverence than the Bible.

Why did writers write this song?
The B-I-B-L-E.
Yes that's the book for me.
I stand alone on the Word of God
The B-I-B-L-E.

Hi Marcia

You asked.......
“Why Wednesday?”
It’s pretty simple.........

First the Lord said that He was going to be in the grave for 72 hours......
Matthew 12:40
“For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”

And there is no way to get around this(He had to have died on Wednesday).
--------------------------------------------------
Popular opinion, is that Christ must have died on Friday, because it was the preparation for the Sabbath(and that is Saturday), but what they fail to realize, is that this was a special Sabbath........
John 19:31
“The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.”

This “high Sabbath”, had to do with the Passover celebration, and this fell on a different day if the week, each year.
This year, the high Sabbath happened to fall on a Thursday, so Wednesday was also a preparation day.

Despite your desires to the contrary, our church will reflect on Jesus' death and burial, remember and anticipate the return of Christ in observing the Lord's supper, and finally, celebrate our risen Lord on Easter. Your church is welcome to join in...you and your church might find all of it more fulfilling than spending this season condemning others.

I feel sorry for "grace stealers" such as stilllearning...he's unhappy unless he's condemning someone for not being as righteous as he thinks they should be.

Sounds like a miserable way to have a Christian walk.

We will have a "Tenebrae" service on Thursday evening. Always a very somber and reflective time.

Tenebrae is very meaningful!!! I've got several bulletins from tenebrae's I've done over the years. If you'd like them (Word docs) via email, holler.

But certainly we can all agree that our Lord died on Wednesday and not Friday.
No, we can't agree. Christ was not in the grave a literal 72 hours. By Jewish traditional Jewish observation, part of a day is considered a day. So he died on Friday (day 1), was in the grave on Saturday (day 2) and rose on Sunday (day 3).

I hope you don't disappoint the folks that go to your church by your non-observation of Easter.

I guess you are "Still Learning", eh?
