Abortion In Cases of Rape

In cases of rape and incest - which I do not believe is grounds for abortion - I never hear anyone speak of nor discuss HOW you will force a child to carry a child or HOW you will force a woman to carry a child.

And changing laws requires writing these hows into the laws.

My wife and I support an organization called “Options for Women: Help for families”; A pro-life group that offers counseling, medical and financial assistance for mother and father and pre-natal for baby.

Over the last several years, just in our little area, they’ve helped several dozen women choose life and they follow up with parenting classes and care packages (food and diapers).

Peace to you

These are the kinds of things that need to be put in place before legislation is passed that merely restricts safe access. These kinds of things immediately save lives.

In a pregnancy that resulted from rape or incest, there are two innocent parties and one guilty. IMO, killing one of the innocents is not a sensible solution. Also, Christ would have His children to offer help and support to those innocents.

Murder of a baby in the case of a rape is not acceptable. Yes, the woman went through a terrible event. However, that gives nobody the right to murder a baby. Period.
True, bigger question would be would you support if we could get abortion legal only if rape ir mothers life in danger?

I’m against abortion except when the life of the mother is in danger from some abnormal condition.

We cannot force someone to give their life for someone else, even for a baby.

As I understand it, when a woman reports a rape, she is offered medication that will prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in the womb.

peace to you

It is often not safe for a woman to report a rape or even seek medical care of any kind. I lost a friend that went to the hospital for a shattered shoulder. The ER was mandated to report certain kinds of assaults on women to the police. The police used this women to prosecute the man that hurt her, legally forcing her to testify against him, while doing nothing to protect her. He was jailed for a few months and came out and killed her. He smashed her face so badly that she had to be identified by her dental records.

I have been legally ordered to testify without being provided protection. I was told that current victims are "expendable". I was told that the courts were designed to protect the accused and potential new victims. I was told that death of witnesses and current victims is "acceptable" to the courts. I was threatened with prosecution if I did not comply.

If a woman has a baby by rape, the rapist often has visitation rights to the child. Through the child, the rapist often has access to identifying information about his victim that allows him to continue to abuse and even kill her.

In situations that involve people with immigration issues and probation and involvement with child services and host of other issues, including mere poverty, people do not have access to medical care without long-term repercussions.

WOW!!!! What country do you live in? The death of victims and witnesses is acceptable by the courts? What courts? Who told you that? You were threatened with prosecution if you didn’t testify against an abuser? What crime could they possibly charge a woman with for refusing to file a complaint? Rapists have visitation rights? Where?

peace to you

The United States of America.

Also of note that in many states it is legal to cyberstalk a victim as long as you don't use the information collected about them online to commit crimes offline. So watching their every move and telling the victim the details of the information collected is legal.

So, for example it is legal for the stalker to say, " I know you were on the phone last night for 31 minutes with John, and I don't like that," or "I know you took the number 33 bus to Hancock Square. What were you doing there? I don't like that you did that."

That is perfectly legal in some states.

I wish I were making this stuff up. I really do.

What I have learned from this, is yeah, some of us seem to be immortal until we complete our mission. I have faith now, not in any government, but in something bigger. I don't die. Period. I just don't die. For now.

If you take out a restraining order, it is illegal for the stalker to contact you to update you and state his opinion about your activity, but taking out a restraining order increases a victim's chances of being killed. It is legal for a stalker to continue to collect information after a restraining order is in place, as long as he does not come within the forbidden physical space.

The safest thing is to just let him keep updating you on what he knows.

That post is stupid. No other way to put it.
Spoken like a true extremist.

To ignore the 1800 times per year that a doctor is faced with a medical crisis where the choice is to abort the fetus to save the life of the mother or to allow the mother and fetus to die together is "stupid". Your rhetoric opposes even the clause "to save the life of the mother". That consigns another 1800 mothers per year to die, needlessly, with their baby (only 600 per year currently die in childbirth). You do the math yourself.

Abortion is murder. Period.
Murder of the innocent is murder of the innocent. No qualifications need be added.
Absolute rules that refuse to see even the possibility of any other side ... that is "stupid".

I have said I agree in case of Life of the mother. Problem is that 1800 is Way yonder inflated.

That is out of context of the general beliefs of the time, and the Bible does not specifically refute this belief as would have been necessary for the people to understand that it was forbidden.

Was abortion acceptable for OT people? For NT people? At what point in history do you think abortion became wrong according to the Bible? What were the priests commanded to do with pregnant adulteresses?
Either God is the author of all human life, or else He is not!

I used to believe church members that said women and mothers were expendable to save babies and for other reasons.

It was the same message that the courts gave me: I was expendable for the sake of other potential lives.

It has taken me a long time to believe that I too am a child of God and that I am not expendable in the father's eyes even if the other children have sentenced me to death or banished me. Lucky for me, it seems the father is more in charge than the other kiddies seem to think.

Daddy keeps coming around the corner, not only to save me, but to give me presents too. At first I would not accept presents, because the other kiddies convinced me that I did not deserve them and it was a sin to accept what I did not "earn". Then I started to understand grace and love and all sorts of other stuff. And that Daddy is the one that owns the stuff, and decides who he will entrust it to.

My daddy loves me, even if my siblings do not. Mothers have the same daddy as the pre-born and the men, and Daddy doesn't love mothers less. I think maybe he has a special place in his heart for mothers living in poverty and domestic abuse and is grieved by the horrible things being inflicted upon them. My daddy sees all. I didn't know that earlier, but now I do.

So what is the correct number of medically necessary abortions?

Does it matter, when the need is so great for the church to step up and start LOVING women and already-born children? Is the church the group most suited to focus on the medical issues? Or are we called to focus our resources elsewhere?

The courts and the church need to FIRST focus on the hurting and broken people that are already right in their face. Let's START there.

Consider this, if someone killed a pregnant woman or if they struck her and killed her unborn baby they were punished. So yes, it is against the Bible, the fact that you even fathom that it isn't murder is appalling and you should be ashamed of yourself.

1% of all women will encounter some "life threatening complication" during a pregnancy. In about 1 in 1000 cases, the complication will be severe enough to place the life of the mother at risk even with hospitalization and treatment. In some percentage of these cases, the ONLY medical choice will be between terminating the pregnancy or watching BOTH the mother and unborn child die.

If ALL abortion is ILLEGAL, then YOU have chosen the tragedy of TWO deaths instead of ONE.
You claim:

Reality is more subtle.
The US sees 3.75 million births per year.
That means 37,500 "life threatening complications" per year.
That means 3,750 women hospitalized for "life threatening complications" with a significant chance of dying from those complications.
If 50% of those women require an abortion to save the life of the mother (I have no idea what the actual % is), then outlawing abortion will condemn an additional 1875 women to death during pregnancy.

From your CDC statistics, the number of pregnancy related deaths is already 634 WITH abortions as a treatment option, so banning all abortions may quadruple pregnancy related mortality ... and all THOSE babies will still die in their mother's wombs.
That's God's call. Not ours.

I have been riding the Thru the Bible Bible Bus and we have been reading through the prophets. I have been very interested in the parts that Reverend McGee highlights about how to correct others. I have never really studied the prophets like this. It is so instructive and interesting and context building and so many other things.

I used to believe what other Christians told me that I was supposed to believe about myself. I don't do that anymore. My daddy is the boss and judge, and I have learned that he wants me to keep my eyes focused on him, and not get so distracted and scared by the other children.

Yes, many of the other children are bigger than me, and smarter than me, and more connected than me, and have more material blessings than me, and on and on and on, but my daddy sees all, and he's got me covered, and I have nothing to worry about as long as I keep my eyes on him.
