about your pastor

Thankful---if there is a women's only class---we can rely on 1)the inspiration of the Holy Spirit within the spirit of the class leader and 2) accountablilty of the class leader to the Pastor---for instance, the Pastor can casually approach the class leader---and ask something like, "What's happening in your class?"---with the intent that the leader & Pastor can be totally honest---telling the truth with each other.

"What's happening in your class?"

"Well, Brother So & So! These ladies, in my opinion, are spending too much time . . .!"

"OH, I see??"

And the pastor is free to make a suggestion---maybe something like----"You make ya'll out a prayer sheet---with all the names---hand it out at the beginning of class----and if there's any changes---tell them to see you after class---or jot it down on a piece of paper and hand it to you after class!"

Something like that??

One of my serious pet peeves is when---we get serious about prayer requests---"Lets get with God about this revival comein' up!"----and some person raises his hand and is recognized---and instead of a prayer request---they add

"Ummmm, Preacher!! The ladies will be meetin' to talk about cleanin' the kitchen!!!"

And I'm thinkin'---"Lands sake!!! What in Tarnation does that have to do with prayin' for revival????????"

I agree with everyone that it is HOW that is done that makes all the difference in the world. I have been involved in pleasant disagreements (the vast majotiry)and not so pleasant disagreements (a very few). Sometimes that unpleasantness has been my fault and, believe me, I have learned a lot about myself from those.

 

Donna, what a great idea! Maybe this can be implemented in our class. Detailed explanations can only be given by the person who requested the prayer request. It would be ok to say, we need to pray for so and so because she is sick, but not go into all the details of the illness, etc. You would not believe what we have to listen to some Sundays.

Of course the most gross details of an illness was given by the person herself who is the leader of our class.

If I ever get off base with the Blood, the Book, the Blessed Hope, etc., you make sure that I get straightened out. In the meantime, you have a right to be wrong about tithing, and I am still praying for you to see the light !!!

going to a church with a pastor is still relatively new to me. there are many times i do not agree with him. he is ct, i'm a dispo, role of women in church, tithing, evangelism as a role of the church, etc. when i first started going, the pastor viewed me as a challenge and i viewed him as a challege . if nothing else, over the past couple months i've learned to be more tactful...

 

But Bro.Pastor!!!!! I HAVE seen the light...after years of "bondage" to an outmoded OT law given to Israel to support the Levitical priesthood and the poor and needy.Ya just have to check out all those scriptures "in context" and find out what an OT "tithe" really was...then you'll know why it doesn't apply today.Now all I have to worry about is how to discern what God wants me to GIVE to...and of course,be willing to without reservation....since it ALL belongs to Him anyway.By the way...you are the LAST person I'd ever expect to get off-base about the Book,the Blood,and the Blessed Hope....but I assure you...if you ever did...me and bro.Bob (and others I'm sure) will get ya straightened out.God Bless you preacher!

I disagreed with my pastor after studying out the law of tithing vs new testament giving. I was railed and removed of my positions as adult Sunday school teacher and asst. director of Reformers Unanimous. I was told that if I didn't tithe I would not serve in any capacity.

The Pastor wouldn't even listen to the fact that I never believed in tithing. The way he found out was he asked the treasurer for a list of leaders in the church that were tithing. My name never appeared on a list because my giving was never documented. My name never went on the envelope. I knew my giving was between me and God.

He immediatly said that was an excuse not to give anything. He stated he would continue to preach tithing and wouldn't even consider my position as valid.

I couldn't stay there any longer. This is one of the fastest growing baptist churches in New England. They preach the bondage of the tithe to a point that your ability to serve God is directly linked to your duty to tithe.

Please. I am not trying to hijack this thread. But you asked.

But seriously, I know what you mean. We have a man who seems to like to hear himself talk. Once after a men's business meeting, our pastor asked five of the men to close in prayer, instructing them that there was no need to repeat what was already prayed for, as the time was getting late. Needless to say, my friend prayed fourth, and had to repeat everything else that had already been prayed for, as well as adding the things I believe God had laid on his heart. He rambles on during testimony time too, right after my preacher says, "No sermons now. Just a testimony." ARRRRGGGHHHH!
