Florida Church To Hold "International Burn A Koran Day

A church in Florida plans to burn Korans on the anniversary of 9/11 this year, drawing fire from American Muslims and pundits already engaged in debate about a planned mosque near Ground Zero.

Dove World Outreach Center, a New Testament Church in Gainesville, will burn the Koran on the night of Sept. 11 "to stand against the evil of Islam." Its senior pastor, Terry Jones, is author of a new book, "Islam is of the Devil."....................................

"There is only one true book, and that is the Bible," Jones says in an episode of his Braveheart Show on YouTube. "Demand that all Moslems that are here must adapt to our values, that they become Americans... You come here... you adapt to our values, our Constitution, our way of life... We should stop, immediately, the building of all mosques in America."

Now, these are un-American statements, if I ever heard one.
If I recall, the Mayflower pilgrims came to the New World precisely because they seek the freedom to worship God according to the dictates of their conscience.

I agree there shouldn't be a mosque at or near ground zero for sensitivity reasons, what we call "delicadeza" in our language in the Philippines, but those statements stifle freedom of religion and individuality.

An individual person or private organization that takes on a mission to dispose of books with false teachings is a fine idea. The problem only comes in when government tries to say one way or the other that books should be protected or not protected.

I would have no problem with people burning the Bible if that is what they wanted to do. They will have to answer for their actions later.

I guess I will have to agree with you here.
My problem is with demanding that Muslims, and by extension those of other cultures, adopt or adapt American culture.
Pakistanis like to wear their country's clothes, and the guy wants Muslims to become Americans.
I take it he doesn't mean be US citizens, right ?
So, Pakistanis need to shed off those national costumes and start wearing American clothes ?
Asians and many other cultures like to look after their oldies.
Many have their old folks living with them, sometimes even their already married children, too.
He said "you come here, you adopt our values".
So, throw the old folks to the retirement homes and visit them once a month ?
Let the 18 year old leave if he wants just because he/she thinks she's old enough to ?

I got no issue with submitting to the laws and the constitution, but what American way of life is to be adapted, and what values ?
These guys think the American way of life and American values are, to borrow a Marxist word, decadent.

Since I do not want other people to burn a book I highly, highly value - as I do the Bible - as a means of protesting what the Bible teaches, I will not burn a book that other people highly, highly value as a means of protesting what their book teaches.

Those folks were showing repentance as these books involved their previous way of life. It would be like a former Muslim who is now a Christian burning the Koran. That's not the same as a Christian who has never been a Muslim burning the Koran.

Still, I have no interest in burning books, for the reason I mentioned before. Also, I am aware of the more recent history of book burning in a non-Bible context such as happened in Nazi Germany.

I don't know about burning all the Korans, but can you imagine the bonfire! :laugh:

If burning these books would rid the world of Islam, fine; but if anything it would only fuel their hatred of America, and it would serve as a great recruiting tool for them.

Yes. When given the opportunity the apostle Paul didn't insult the Athenians's Zeus, Apollo, Athena, etc.:

I keep them so they are not given out somewhere else plus it costs them money to produce them so they use their money for nothing except to feed my references with cults. It also makes good reference materials for years later when the new folks tell you something else.

So this pastor wants them to comform themselves to a culture which promotes fornication, materialism, divorce, sodomy, cursing, doing what feels right, etc? And all this time I thought the Bible taught us that we aren't supposed to comform to the surrounding culture.

The fact is, you aren't going to convert a single person by offending them needlessly. Islam is a false religion. But, rather than burning the Koran, and really just drawing attention to myself (which appears to be the main objective to such a thing), I'd be better off to show this person the truth of the bible so that he/she can investigate for him/herself. I'd rather they had the Koran to compare, because an objective comparison between it and the Bible is no contest. If what I believe is the truth it ought to stand some fair investigation. Burning the opposition makes it seem like the Bible can't stand such an investigation.
