Adult Sunday School Curriculum??

Hello,

I'm just curious what other Sunday School Curriculum your churches are using for adult classes, if any. We are going to have a Christian Education meeting soon and I would like to bring some options to the table, whether we change or not.

I attend a very small, rural Baptist church in WV. Our pastor teaches from the KJV. I am not yet sure how willing the class would be to switch to a non KJV curriculum. When searching the internet there are very few KJV only curriculums out there. There are several that I have looked at that are not KJV that look promising.

So what do you all use?

What you may consider (depending on the obligation and classes) is take from the "more rigorous" and develop your own curricula to fit your specific needs. Besides, with the more children coming with technology backgrounds, the "app" may be useful, too.

I have encouraged many new teachers over the years to try The Bible Expositor and Illuminator it generally has three directions you can chose to direct the lesson toward and is reasonably priced per quarter.

The teacher must be able to determine his or her own outline.

For the few adult Sunday School groups that still meet on campus on Sundays, we have transitioned an established church from a very traditional model into a newer one, we allow them to choose whatever curriculum they desire, so long as it is in keeping with the theology and distinctive calling of our church.

Several groups, they're usually older but not exclusively, use Lifeway's Explore the Bible because they've been using it for several decades. Others hop around from video based curriculum, streamed into their rooms via RightNow Media, or other shorter studies. Essentially, we allow our group leaders to choose the curriculum options that fit their groups with some input from our staff leadership. This has gone very well for us. We use this same model for all our adult groups, though none of our off campus, non-Sunday groups use continual curriculum like Explore the Bible.

There are a lot of options out there for groups curriculum out there. We pay staff pastors to be aware of it all and help guide our groups to choose the best options for them. Just our way of doing things and it might not work for others. We believe the greatest moments of spiritual transformation occur in the midst of our groups, in our communities, and while we are serving others. Our services are important, but our groups are key to the life of our church. Equipping them with the right curriculum options makes our strategy come together.

Depends on the church. Most good SS curriculum is not from the KJV. If you are interested I have some curriculum on my website that a former pastor (deceased) wrote that really dives into the word. At that church we learned how to use the strongs concordance (rarity at churches).

Note I will also say it's good to go through curriculum. I have visited churches that just lectured at people in SS.

I prefer to put together my own material extracted from the bible and secondary commentary sources.
Secondary sources can vary greatly in terms of depth of doctrinal allegiance, content, historical background, grammar, etc, etc... Of course the demographic of the students must me taken into account.

Recently our class (senior citizens) consensus was a study in the book of Hebrews for which The Letter To The Hebrews, Peter T. O'Brien was chosen as the commentary source.

Our Adult Sunday School class alternates from DVD lessons (http://www.christianbook.com/page/christian-authors/ray-vander-laan?event=Christian-Parenting) to study books like Warren W. Wiersby "BE" series, such as Be Hopeful on 1 Peter.
