It matters more than you'll admit.

You need to take some grammar course. The main clause is HE CAUSES HER TO COMMIT ADULTERY, not HE IS NOT ALLOWED TO DIVORCE.

The EXCEPTION of him causing her adultery, is when she obviously commits adultery.

32but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

Now you tell us everyone who is divorced in your family/congregation is strictly from folks cheating on each other.

    not buying it.

His entire argument was whether or not posters used the actual word "loophole" to describe...a loophole.

Notice also he never actually formulated an objection and or offered a refutation to the actual OP?

Thank you for your post and for pointing out his dishonest non-sequitur.

Call me silly, but using your logic, if you wanted to divorce your wife and marry your girlfriend, wouldn't you just need to encourage your wife to go out and commit adultery and then you'd be good to go?

Thanks for the heads-up. I guess he employs that tactic when his repertoire of ad hominems cease being effective.

No, as God holds one who persuades another to sin just-as-guilty as He holds he/she who actually committed the sin.

Case in point: God held DAVID responsible for Uriah's murder, although Dave wasn't present when it occurred, & it appeared that Uriah was simply a battle casualty. He held not only David answerable, but Joab as well for carrying out Dave's request. Same as man's law holding he who pays a hitman to whack somebody as culpable & at least as guilty as the actual hitman.

Understood. What if you wanted to divorce your wife and marry your girlfriend, and your wife goes out and commits adultery on her own? Under these circumstances, you'd be good to go?
