Advice from a spiritual child

My wife’s sister and my wife, have both been saved for about 30 years or so, and although they both started out in a Baptist Church, years ago my sister in-law wanted more excitement in worship, so she soon started attending a Charismatic Church.

Well, here 30 years later, she is still a baby Christian, who’s life is a mess, because she doesn’t take her walk with the Lord seriously.

The other day, my wife showed her 1Timothy 2:12, thinking that maybe, if she saw the truth about her choice of denominations, she would wake up to what life is all about.
--------------------------------------------------
Well my sister in-law had some advice for my wife........
“You need to stop being so nit-picky about the Bible.”
--------------------------------------------------
Being “nit-picky” about the Bible and Bible Doctrine, has resulted in my wife and I having a wonderful life in Christ, with all the joy & peace & contentment, that a person could ever want.
While EVERY other Christian, who takes a laxidasical view of life, is miserable.

Yep, proof texting is nit picking, and no christian should pull a text out of context and use it to like that. The Bible is sharper than a two edge sword, you can either use it like a surgeons scalpel, (IN context).. or you can use it like you're in a knife fight.. (like you all did..) Which is nit picking...

That verse has nothing to do with being in a Charismatic church, or about being a baby Christian.. and if that is the main point of your church, then you need to get into another church.. because your church IF that is the main teaching of your church, it is a cult...

Talk about taking advice from a baby Christian.. I'd advise your SIL not to take advice from you.

You should know better than to use the Bible in a discussion with a Charismatic. You should have said, "The Lord told me to tell you . . ."

or

"I saw a vision . . . "

or

"I was speaking in tongues and I felt it was for you . . ."

etc.

Great verse, BTW.

Using a verse out of context to condemn Charismatic is not a great way to use a verse.. YES it is a great verse, but instead of being complimented, our brother, (or his wife) should be rebuked for mishandling God's word..

Here is what was in the OP...

The other day, my wife showed her 1Timothy 2:12, thinking that maybe, if she saw the truth about her choice of denominations, she would wake up to what life is all about.

Here is the verse: 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. NIV

NOW... please someone show me how this verse applies when choosing a denomination...

I am assuming.. (MIGHT BE MY PROBLEM... LOL) that Stilllearning and his wife was wanting to show his SIL that Baptists are superior to Charismatics... But this verse has NOTHING to do with denominations... IOWS a woman teaching men is not just isolated to Charismatics.. and has nothing to do with spiritual immaturity.. Paul is simply stating that he does not allow it..

He doesn't talk about how if someone listens to a woman it will make them immature...

There are plenty of immature Christians that only listen to MEN...

Immaturity doesn't rely on WHO you listen too.. but how you apply what the Bible says...
A person can set under the best teacher in the world...

LETS say, JESUS.. and still be immature..

Look at John 6:66. People were taught by the very best teacher in the world, and turned back... they were immature.

So, yes, I do believe that Stilllearning's wife (based on what was presented in the OP) was nit picking.. and should be taught how to properly use the Bible.. not just lift texts out to context to slam another denomination...

Hi Tim

You and I have already established the context of 1Timothy 2:12 here........

See post #51, for a reminder.

OK.. but how is that verse proof that Charismatics are false? What does that verse have to do with finding a proper denomination.. especially since there are Baptist churches throughout history and now that have women pastors, teachers, deacons, etc...

Is that the only thing you have against Charismatic churches.. and it's strange, but I know of NO charismatic church (at least within a 100 mile radius) that has women leaders.. they are more fundamental than most concerning women...

Hello again TT

You asked.....
“OK.. but how is that verse proof that Charismatics are false?”
Most charismatic congregations, ordain women as pastors.
This is unBiblical so it is a false teaching.
--------------------------------------------------
Also.....
“What does that verse have to do with finding a proper denomination.. especially since there are Baptist churches throughout history and now that have women pastors, teachers, deacons, etc...”

If you walk into a Church, and see a woman teaching or being given authority over men, than you know you should find another Church.
--------------------------------------------------
Lastly you ask.......
“Is that the only thing you have against Charismatic churches.. and it's strange, but I know of NO charismatic church (at least within a 100 mile radius) that has women Heleaders.. they are more fundamental than most concerning women... “

Of course not. In almost every case, a Church that fills okey with disregarding one part of Scripture, won’t stop their.

And the Church my sister in-law goes to doesn’t have a woman pastor either.
But that denomination makes it clear, that they will ordain women.
