Thanks JFox1. No many folks could dig that up; do you have a research background?

    And what of this thread?

I've been reading Helen's post since before I was a member. She is an articulate woman obviously possessed of intelligence and common sense.

So Helen if you're reading this, what about this crackpot weirdo got to you?

It wasn't what he said. It was the fact that he received a standing ovation. THAT is what scares me! Whether or not this kind of lunacy could happen is the stuff of nightmares. But the reality of others approving even the idea is horrific.

Thank you for your compliment, James.

Concerns about overpopulation are absolutely overblown! I've lived in Yokohama, one of the most crowded cities in the world, visited Hong Kong for a week and been to Tokyo many times, the two most crowded cities in the world. And you know what? Everyone got along and there was room for everyone...well, except for when riding the trains during a Tokyo rush hour! [IMG] [IMG]

Yeah, me neither! I didn't see that...you win, I lose!

[grasping at straws].....could it be a "glass snake"? Those are legless lizards which break like glass - well, whose tail comes off like other lizards' ? [/grasping]

Burnet's solution: The plan to poison S-E Asia

    By Brendan Nicholson
    Poltical Correspondent
    March 10 2002

World-famous microbiologist Sir Macfarlane Burnet, the Nobel prize winner revered as Australia's greatest medical research scientist, secretly urged the government to develop biological weapons for use against Indonesia and other "overpopulated" countries of South-East Asia.

The revelation is contained in top-secret files and be the first people in line in line to get indeclassified by the National Archives of Australia, despite resistance from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Sir Macfarlane recommended in a secret report in 1947 that biological and chemical weapons should be developed to target food crops and spread infectious diseases.

His key advisory role on biological warfare was uncovered by Canberra historian Philip Dorling in the National Archives in 1998.

The department initially blocked release of the material on the basis it would damage Australia's international relations. Dr Dorling sought a review and the material was finally released to him late last year.

    SOURCE

I say if Dr. Eric R. Pianka or any others of the elite educated and aristocractic classes believe that world population should be reduced by the ebola virus or some other means then they should prove their convictions by volunteering to be the first ones infected by it.

Isn't it amazing how men will try to take control when they don't recognize or submit to God? And the 'control' the men want is almost always to the damage and destruction of others.

I'm so glad God is in control! I'm so grateful HE is God!

I do a little research. Here is the link to a website that has quotes from various animal rights activists. They are certifiable:

I'm sending this article to Sean Hannity - maybe they'll do a segment about it on Hannity & Colmes.

Heard Forrest Mims in an interview today there may a transcript of the speech available in a day or two.

I was just reading E.R. Pianka's obituary and looking at some nice photos of his herd of American Bison. The herd bull stands six feet at the shoulder, weighs around a ton, jumps over four feet high and answers to the name of Lucifer.

Click here to view photos of Lucifer.

Daisy, who does not exaggerate, says he wasn't in the meeting. And Pianka's written opinion is clearly not calling for killing 90% of the human race. I don't agree with much of Pianka's opinions therein, but he clearly is not calling for culling humans with ebola.

I refused to vote for Kerry because he was too liberal for me. So that liberal at least, doesn't make me look conservative. ;)

When there's a discrepancy between what a man says, and what others said he says, I tend to believe each person regarding his own opinions. He is, after all, the final arbiter of what he thinks.

Maybe deceived, but deceiver? Must have been a very long time ago, indeed, before I apologized to you for our differences. I have not said anything remotely close to that, since then at least. I truly wish you happiness, which you richly deserve.

We've got Pianka's views on written record. And they don't match the story.

Thanks, Galatian - I try not to exagerate, but in this case I did make a mistake as I mentioned before:
Sometimes I skim too quickly and just plain misunderstand. I'm beginning to realize I have a bit of a problem with small type and italics.

You don't think the earth's resources are finite?

I wonder how many people read Pianka's own words?

Concurring that the earth's resources are not infinite. We can certainly cram more people closer together than we have right now, but eventually the problem will be feeding them all. We're already seeing fishing grounds declining and fields being lost to desertification.

So maybe Pianka is a staunch misanthrope. So what?

If he in fact believes that the extinction of the human race would solve every last problem on this planet, then I guarantee that he is not alone with those thoughts.

Cockroaches and dogs breed mindlessly and without forethought. So do humans. How is that news to anyone?

Dogs don't beat, verbally abuse, rape, torture, ignore or prostitute their offspring. Only humans are capable of such evil.

Again, the problem was with the standing ovation that he got, not that he is a perpetrator of evil on earth!

Hitler commanded the respect and adoration of millions (still does, sadly). He would scream about "The Jew Problem" to millions and they shouted back their approval.

I guess all I'm saying is that this is nothing new. Not only is this nothing new, but there have always been people who felt this way and there always will be people who will cheer them on.

How many standing ovations did Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Pol Pot, and Noriega get? Lots.

    From Helen's source...

"However, Eric Pianka says his remarks about his beliefs were taken out of context, that he was just raising a warning that deadly disease epidemics are a threat if population growth isn't contained."

That's not the story you got, Helen. We know from Pianka's website that he is on record saying that overpopulation puts us at risk of a pandemic, not that he advocates such a thing. And now, he reiterates that stand.

He doesn't want a pandemic; he wants to avoid one.

Pianka is still the authority on what he thinks. The most charitable thing we can conclude is that your guy wanted to hear something outrageous, and fooled himself.

Your link also points out that at least one "pro-life" person was so outraged as to make a death threat. I'd sure hate to have something like that on my conscience, if I was the one who told the false story.
