Al Qaeda Claims Responsibility For Power Blackout In U.S.!

Mohamad Saleh Al-Hayat 2003/08/18
Cairo

A communiqué attributed to Al Qaeda claimed responsibility for the power blackout that happened in the U.S. last Thursday, saying that the brigades of Abu Fahes Al Masri had hit two main power plants supplying the East of the U.S., as well as major industrial cities in the U.S. and Canada, "its ally in the war against Islam (New York and Toronto) and their neighbors."

The communiqué assured that the operation "was carried out on the orders of Osama bin Laden to hit the pillars of the U.S. economy," as "a realization of bin Laden's promise to offer the Iraqi people a present."

The statement, which Al-Hayat obtained from the website of the International Islamic Media Center, didn't specify the way the alleged sabotage was carried out. The communiqué read: "let the criminal Bush and his gang know that the punishment is the result of the action, the soldiers of God cut the power on these cities, they darkened the lives of the Americans as these criminals blackened the lives of the Muslim people in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine. The Americans lived a black day they will never forget. They lived a day of terror and fear… a state of chaos and confusion where looting and pillaging rampaged the cities, just like the capital of the caliphate Baghdad, and Afghanistan and Palestine were. Let the American people take a sip from the same glass."

It added: "we heard amazing statements made by the American and Canadian enemies which have nuclear physics universities and space agencies, that lightning hit and destroyed the two plants. And we are supposed to believe this nonsense. If the blackout occurred in one or two cities, their lie would have been credible. But the fact is that the blackout hit the entire East and part of Canada."

The communiqué continued: "one of the benefits of this strike is that the U.S. will not live in peace until our conditions are met, such as releasing all the detainees including Sheikh Omar Abdulrahman, and getting out of the land of the Muslims, including Jerusalem and Kashmir."
The rest of the article is at this Arab site: Al-Hayat (English version)

Next they'll take credit for any garbage strike and blood shortage.

Hey, it's a low cost way to 'terrorize'! Just claim everything!

Even if they were responsible, the govt would never tell us the truth. The only reason 09/11 was attributed to terrorism was because we saw it all happen in real time.

Flight TWA 800 is still covered up. Not to mention the truth aka Iraqi connection behind Okla. City. As well as other incidents.

PS: Yeh, waiting for InHim's usual caustic comments about conspiracies any moment now.

Don't forget about how John Wilkes Booth was actually an Iraqi sleeper agent with orders to silence Lincoln. Then there was the Lindburgh baby kidnapping, the disappearance of Amelia Aerhart (she saw Osama bin Laden's secret base in the South Pacific) and the whole deal with the murder of Kennedy. (Saddam Hussein was on the grassy knoll!)

My father in law works for Alabama Power--and has lessoned me on the possiblities of terror strikes on the plants---

There are so many "checks and balances" inside the operation of generating electricity that its next to impossible to shut the entire plant down at one time. The physical plant is here--the control room is 150 miles away--each looking at each others grid work---

I would venture to say that it is hedonic America at fault--using way too much electricity--

Stop with the conspiracy theories already. THe blackout wasn't the work of terrorists.

Flight TWA 800 is still covered up.

There's no evidence of terrorism or coverup. Those who assert otherwise do so either in ignorance or do so in an attempt to spread falsehoods.

Not to mention the truth aka Iraqi connection behind Okla. City.
Oh, please, Mrs. McCarthy!!!! ****personal attack removed****

Hmmmmm, I wonder if Baghdad Bob had a hand in writing this article, since I don't recall seeing footage of looting, pillaging, or the masses on a rampage. You know, after all, he (Bob) had a unique way of seeing the events that were unfolding around him hehehe

Baghdad Bob is the nickname of the former Iraqi Information Minister, who claimed there were no US troops in Baghdad, even though they were right across the street from him during this announcement! He's become an unofficial American icon/joke. He even has his own bobblehead, tee shirts, etc.

Back in 1965, after the last great blackout in NYC, during the height of the civil rights protests, Flip Wilson was heard to say, "If we don't get what we want, next time we take out the water!" (He was joking)

I agree claiming responsibility is a low/no cost method of terrorism. Those of us in the West may know better, but those in the Arab world with a limited knowledge of how things work here could easily believe the claim. (Even if Washington wanted to cover up something, Ottawa would blow the cover in a nanosecond.)

It was not an overwhelmingly hot day and electricity usage was at only 75%.

But we would be well served as a nation to quit listening to the environmental wackos and increase our available electricity and distribution system before we do have a long-term problem on down the road.
