Funny, isn't it, how no one seems to believe that gluttony destroys one's witness.
Or drinking coffee. After all, caffeine is a physiologically-altering drug that can be addictive. Why? Because it is considered socially acceptable.

Well, I've got good news and bad news for you:
The good news, you're about to find out how varied this issue is among Baptists.

Sooo...I'm going to give the over under for this thread page count at 25 by next Monday. Any takers?
I do not see support within the context of verse 6 that it is just spiritual. Is God going to swallow up death just spiritually and not physically? That is just two verses down.
I did find a great use for alcohol. Vodka, to be specific.
I had mold in one of the bathrooms and needed to make vanilla anyhow. Perfect!

Well, now, that makes sense. I suppose we'll have to define moderation for this situation. Say, no more than one double bacon cheeseburger a day.
Does anyone attend a Baptist church for Wednesday night supper and in the drink section, among other choices, have the choice of your favorite alcoholic beverage?

Not at my church, but the church at Corinthians had one:
1 Cor 11: 20 When you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat, 21 for as you eat, each of you goes ahead without waiting for anybody else. One remains hungry, another gets drunk. 22 Don’t you have homes to eat and drink in? [NIV]
Why would you suppose the church at Corinthians did but not our Baptist churches?
Because drinking wine was an everyday part of their culture and it's not in ours. It could be that churches in France or Italy do this, not sure.
What do you suppose the reason is behind why it's not an everyday part of our Baptist church culture?
Ummm...because it would be wrong for the church to serve alcohol and then sent folks into their cars to drive their families home?
"Do you not have homes to eat and drink in?" 1 Cor 11:22
Why not? Restaurants and other gatherings do it on a daily basis. Keep in mind the emphasis here is the theme of this thread and that we are enjoying a drink and not filling ourselves with drink. With this in mind, sending folks into their cars to drive is a non-issue.
