If the "except clause" permits remarriage from an adulterous spouse, why does Jesus say the man who marries the innocent divorced woman is an adulterer? She was divorced from an adulterous husband. This would also make the innocent woman an adulterer.
This is an entirely different topic. Please create a new topic to discuss marriage infidelity. Thank you.

You are judging the martyrs by your own self. You are judging me by yourself. Have you ever given up anything for Christ? Faced danger? Turned the other cheek? etc..
Dave, how are you doing with obeying Hebrews 10:25?

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

Dave, there is no Christian who truly surrenders all. The Apostle Paul clearly shows us he hadn't fully done so as evidenced in Romans 7. To say "I surrender all" to God is to boldly lie in God's presence. It is to be like Peter, before the crucifixion and make false promises to God. They were well meaning vows, but Peter failed miserably in fulfilling them. Are you better than Peter and Paul in your self-righteousness?

Again, how is that meeting together with others going for you?

You are making the mistake of assuming others share your spiritual condition. You are not the standard of comparison, Jesus is.

Would you join a church that violates your conscience. Just for fellowship? Neither would I.

Dave you don't seem to grasp the basic grammar of the verse. If one spouse commits adultery, the other spouse is permitted, according to Christ, to divorce them and remarry.

Is any human able to sing this song without lying? If not, why do we sing it?

Lyics:

All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
I surrender all,
I surrender all.
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
2
All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.
3
All to Jesus I surrender,
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel Thy Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.
4
All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me.
5
All to Jesus I surrender,
Now I feel the sacred flame.
Oh, the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory to His name!
I cannot sing this song, as I will not be truthful to the Lord if i did!

Story Behind the Hymn:
Judson Wheeler Van de Venter (1855-1939) was raised from a Christian home. At age 17, he accepted Jesus as his Saviour. He graduated at the university with a degree in art and was successfully employed as a teacher and administrator of high school art.

He studied and taught music; mastered 13 different instruments, sang and composed music. He was very involved in the music ministry of his Methodist Episcopal church and eventually found himself waver between the challenge of going into Gospel ministry and that of becoming a recognized artist. This struggle within him lasted for almost five years.

Here is how he tells it:

“For some time, I had struggled between developing my talents in the field of art and going into full-time evangelistic work. At last the pivotal hour of my life came, and I surrendered all.

“A new day was ushered into my life. I became an evangelist and discovered down deep in my soul a talent hitherto unknown to me. God had hidden a song in my heart, and touching a tender chord. He caused me to sing.”

I make no mistake. I assume you are a sinner to the core of your nature as the Bible tells us we all are. I ask if you are sinless so that you have perfectly surrendered all.
I suggest, if you claim sinless perfection, you have just lied and thus not surrendered it all to Jesus.

Thank you. This explains the bad theology.

You cannot surrender your sinful make-up. But you can surrender obeying it. Martyrs surrender all, but unless you are willing to die upholding Christ's words about loving instead of killing enemies, you cannot fathom it. I did this long ago and live a life free from the fear of death. Jesus indeed separates the men from the boys.

If I were to sing only the hymns I perfectly obey, I would be down to a handful, if that.
Do we really mean "lead me to Calvary"?
Or "even thy cup of grief to share"?
Or "send grief and pain, sweet are thy messengers, sweet their refrain" ?
Or "take my silver and my gold, not a mite would I withhold"?
I trow not.

Are you dead yet?
No.
You have not surrendered all and you do not presently surrender all, unless you claim sinless perfection.

So many of the hymns are man-centered and full of bad theology. It is appalling when I go through the hymn book of my youth.

I surrender all by not killing myself. But I resist lust when it wells up in me. I'm planning a post about the differences between self-denial and denying self? Do you have any thoughts on this?

Actually I don't think it is bad theology, it's not a theological statement, but it clarifies what the song is or is not talking about. You have made it something the song is not actually dealing with. It truly is a song of dedication.

It is an assertion coming from bad theology. I think you are attempting to sentimentalize the song, but the verses present another story, one where the singer cannot mean what s/he is saying.
