Is any human able to sing this song without lying? If not, why do we sing it?

Lyics:

All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
I surrender all,
I surrender all.
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
2
All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.
3
All to Jesus I surrender,
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel Thy Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.
4
All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me.
5
All to Jesus I surrender,
Now I feel the sacred flame.
Oh, the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory to His name!

Liar ... hypocrite ... thief ... fornicating blaspheming adulterer.

Some cognitive dissonance rejecting the need for The Savior.

Yes. Well....just as much as we can honestly pray "Thy will be done" anyway.

I think when we get to the place where we are willing to die upholding Christ's words of non-violence rather than to kill enemies we are pretty close to honestly performing this song.

I look at the word as aspirational. IOW, what I want to happen, not what is happening now.
Understood, but it's not written that way. It doesn't read, "All to Jesus I wish to surrender..." If it read that way, I could sing it without thinking "sorry God, you know I am lying."

I have often said that the time that Baptists lie the most is when we sing our hymns.

So...at our death?
I sing this song without lying and enjoy it thoroughly. If you take the cross and follow Jesus, you will rather be killed by an enemy than kill your enemy. And that is surrendering all.

Yet, you have not surrendered all, 100% of all the sins you harbor. Even the Apostle Paul hadnt done so when he wrote Romans. (see ch 7).

Who are you to say?

Here's my approach to walking in the Spirit.

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” (2 Corinthians 10:5) (KJV 1900)

We censor every impure thought or imagination. And change the channel in our thinking on any thought that does not conform to obedience to Christ.

And we replace it with:

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)

Knowing Jesus is God and God is love, Jesus is Lord of our lives when love rules our thoughts and actions.

How is this not surrendering every thought and to Christ?

and surrendering to the Lord -includes fellowship with other Christians in worship and song.- in order to build each other up in the Lord.

Specifically - being active in a local Bible Bible believing church

It also shuns those who are out of order. Sacrificing popularity, and friends for truth. Does your church promote adultery through divorce and remarriage? All in my area do.

Yep - every Sunday I am up there preaching -and telling my folks that we only want divorce couples in our church since never divorce couples are hollier-then-thou

In fact if someone wants to join - and they have never been divorced - I tell them we dont want them - and that they should go to Westboro Baptist church.

Thats right - we only want contemporary culture in our church

1) No.
2) The pride of man. Merely religious people are all about I did this, I did that, I did the other thing.

I see- we all have that "eye" problem - as in "I"
absolutely correct - in fact while preaching me tries not to say "I"

I have sung it at church without lying. How so? By walking in the Spirit.

Divorce and remarriage = adultry. I shun churches that encourage this.

@1689Dave Regardless of how "good" we think we live, we cannot do so perfectly. Therefore, we never give "all" as that would require 100% perfection, and we can't do that in these vile bodies. Even 99.999999% is not perfection. Our sin imputed to Christ and Christ's righteousness imputed to us is what is required, not our performance, to have a right standing with God.
