very old thread here, but i wanted to reply. secreterial science has been around for a long time...the more "modern" name for it is admin assistant. it's not really meant to be condescending, but the degree is both a bible major and secreterial science major and the goal is to educate the student to serve in either a church as a secretary or a christian school as the secretary. it's a bit more advanced than what you might be thinking. the student learns how to type, how to write business communications, learn various office programs, learn church / school finance, learn how to take notes that are for legal purposes, and so on. additionally there is the bible major that goes along with the secreterial program, and that is pretty self explanatory. just to be clear, at GSBC (and all other baptist bible colleges that are IFB) you always do a double major of bible + whatever it is that you want to study as your vocation.

women are not pastors in most baptist churches. the role for the women who are married to men in the ministry is usually pastors wife or youth pastors wife, and usually those women end up being either the secretary or a teacher in the christian school that is at the church.

other denoms do allow women pastors (nazarene for example) but again, that is not the IFB.

the reasoning for this is biblical.
I am shocked that the school would be so condesending to offer a 4 year "secretarial science" degree for women only to "train ladies for full-time Christian service as secretaries." That, I think, is an all time low in what some Christians think of women. A 4 year degree just to teach women how to be secretaries! Most secretary jobs can train a brand new secretary in a couple of weeks. Not to mention the fact that the school doesn't allow for a man to be "called" to serve in that capacity. I am disgusted. No matter what your view of women in ministry is - this is a new low.
