That was an EXCELLENT post, O Froggy one! Well done, with an almost palpable sense of sincerity. Thank you for the honesty, and the words of wisdom.

Oh, and yes, I've fought the Baptist blood in me and lost. [IMG]

Define works that indicate fruit. </font>
One example might be something that helps another grow in Christ, or come to know Christ, or witness for Christ, or teach a Sunday School class, or visit someone that is in the hospital or nursing home. Those are just a few.

Perhaps you should do a word study on fruit and another on works.
</font>
This is written to disciples (disciples are those who embrace the teachings of the one whom they are the disciple of; not simply hangers-on) and talks about fruit (works).

When you produce fruit, you are being a blessing to the saints.

Fruit may be an indicator that you are saved, but are not necessary for salvation. There are plenty of people out there who are lost who are being a blessing to the saints in one way or another; that doesn't mean they're saved.

I guess the point of all this is that if we microscopically examine the life of just about anyone, we can find "evidence" they are unsaved. Fortunately, no one's opinion really matters but that of God himself.

It is a great blessing to know when we have been beaten.

Praise God for His Mercy endureth forever.

What is palpable? I couldn't find that word in the Hill Billy Dictionary??? [IMG]

Anyway, my point is that there are some who have told me and Kelly that neither of us are saved because we do not possess a like baptism to their own.

Now, to unchurch ole Frogman because of error in immersion (toward a view of proper faith) ole froggy understands; to declare I possess not the Spirit of Witness of my personal adoption is not even at the river's edge...kno whut I mean :rolleyes:

Next thing we will all have to gather around the green river or the cumberland, or the big sandy, or the Ohio, or the mighty Mississip;

Maybe we should begin a mission effort to not only dispense salvation but also that would glean support for those who feel they must need be baptized in the Jordan?

Yep, a wrong baptism I think I do possess, but with the Spirit of Adoption I am blessed.

Tug and pull, til in the water I fall,
yet not ever will you hear me to the waters call;

My hope rests sure that God has a people and He also has redeemed the same;

Now is my task to preach repentance and forgiveness in that Eternal Name.

For if even Abraham could receive Isaac in a figure from the dead; and if my sins be cast upon the Redeemer's head;

Then with certainty and no, no doubt,
I want to climb the highest mountain, descend into the lowest valley HIS name to shout.

Will some not believe the tale I bear?

Then how shall I an eternal guilt to wear?

Did He not suffer and die for sin's great curse?

And is not sin by unbelief? So then were my unbelief not under HIS view? Or else I must only submit to the water too?

how am I to decide such things, when all of my eternal hope and peace does hang?

am I a worm, from dust to dust capable of such an Blessed Trust?

Were I to have been able to save,
Even myself, then certainly to me He would other also gave; But to whom did He consign their hope?

Under what head did He hang their rest? Upon none other, for another there was not,

Save for the Everlasting Cords of Emmanuel's blood
Most assuredly and hurriedly over me the waters would flood.

He alone draws, all of whom the Son has Bought, Because He alone has given them over into HIS Care, that by HIS Righteousness clean garments they shall wear.

Preeecher, I had a clue. LOL! You're too kind...

Frogman, palpable means able to be touched. :)

I understand what you're saying of what you and Kelly face. I guess it's more common than I believed it to be!

The water is not the same as the flood
that leaves you immersed in Emmanuel's blood
In faith that kindles the eternal flame
When called by by that eternal Name

Then resplendent in the afterglow of what was accomplished for me and you
Let us carry it on through our witness till this world is born anew

That they may consider the work of the hand of our Lord
Then shall we gather and in glorious accord

To honor him who has nourished our souls with fathomless love
So let us put to the work given from our Father above

Too high the partition we built with our iniquities for so long
Now we cease from the past, for he's brought down the wall and righted the wrong

Ok yeah I give up...it's hard to keep writing like that! How'd you do all that so fast?! [IMG]
Very good though, thanks! You sound like Spurgeon.

No, Spurgeon had an English accent, so I obviously don't 'sound'like him, now do I?

I am hill-billy, but not east Ky. hill billy, more south central, so I don't know the Queen's English.

When I was in High School, I did more than go a-courtin'

I once aspired to write poetry, but have not written much in a long while.

as far as doing it fast, the thoughts simply come to me and I just click away.

Once I had to write a Japanese poem for my Senior History class, I of course had better things to do than to devote my precious time to trying to write one of those what are they? hiakous?

anyway, I neglected it. the next day in class the instructor seemed to know I didn't do the assignment.

He called on me first, right off the tardy bell to read my poem to the class.

without hesitation I simply said, "if you are not within yourself, then you are surely without"

He was so impressed that he forgot all about the fact that I did not complete the assignment and asked me to write that on my paper before we all forgot it. He made such a big deal about it that I have never forgotten it.

I have consistently tried to follow that thought, that is to be introspective rather than outrospective, respectively, of course&lt;grin&gt;.

After the inward man I delight in the Law of God;
Though that which is bound up in the flesh must be kept in check, else I find it relentlessly cold and hard.

We are to worship in Spirit and Truth. I try to balance the two and to teach a balance. Though I am not a judge of others, I am called to bring them to remembrance of things, and that has been impressed upon me that some seem to focus upon the 'truth'at the expense of the Spirit.

Neither are dispensable; in order of the scriptural teaching, the former is impossible without the latter (but be sure and align the two according to the words of Christ, or else it will be thought I am saying the truth is impossible. The correct order is Spirit first, and then truth.)

But when I do write or think like that, most people just seem to count it as a lot of bunk, to borrow from Henry Ford.

Gina L, &

Dr. Bob,

This sounds like one of the Puritan conversion expeiences like John Bunyan; who struggled with "closing with Christ" as they called it!

"Stay by the stuff!" Gina.

May all who read this pray for Gina to have some level of assurance which only the Holy Spirit can give.

I would much rather see someone wrestle with their own soul's need than to see them "make a commitment" with some smooth talking "soul-winning" salesman.

Amen!!!

Excellent post, blackbird! [IMG]

The best and most blessed assurance is the testimony of the Holy Ghost:

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Rom. 8:16-17.

For those doubting salvation, I recommend the recourse suggested by Matthew Henry:

Rhetorician, I very much appreciate the thought, but if you'll review the initial posts, it should show that I wasn't questioning it. I'm quite postitive. [IMG]
Do you teach ethics or some type of religious class? I've wanted to take both, especially a world religions one, but am a bit afraid to, not knowing what to expect!
