Amen and Amen... What is that?

I don't mind the preacher preparing a few "Amen lines" in his sermon, just as orators include some applause lines.

I guess what I don't like is when it comes across as obvious manipulation.

You hit the nail on the head. Once in awhile is ok, but when it is a continual thing that seems to only stroke the ego of the preacher then I do not care for it.

Boy oh boy, PastorSBC, did you strike a nerve. Oh, I don't mind the pastor asking for an Amen? on occasion. What I do mind is when the preacher fishes for it, doesn't get it, or gets a small response, and chides his congregation because of it.

A very good preacher told me one time, "When you say amen to the preaching, it's like saying sic 'em to a dog."

By the way, in my native South, it's pronounced Ay-man, or sometimes Ay-may-un. Never would we be caught saying Ah-men.

Saying "amen and amen" does not bother me at all.

Now, a preacher who goes fishing for amens all the time aggrivates me as it comes off fake. If you have to ask people to say amen, is it really that big of deal and are you really saying something of worth?

Amen, and Amen to that.
