Obama adviser treads carefully when asked whether Americans are better off

Asked repeatedly on Sunday whether the country is better off than it was four years ago, David Plouffe, a top adviser to President Obama, would not provide a direct yes or no answer.

My family and I are doing better since 2008. We were doing well then but have been wise stewards and made prudent moves financially.

I also know some who aren't doing as well.
