"Tonight" host Jay Leno might want to consider wearing referee stripes on Wednesday's show when Ann Coulter and George Carlin are his guests.
Coulter, the acid-tongued conservative with a new book out, and Carlin, the quick-witted, antiestablishment comedian who's in the voice cast for the new animated film "Cars," were booked at separate times for the NBC late-nighter, a spokeswoman said Monday.
But the duo's meeting could produce serious fireworks for "Tonight," which usually limits its political fodder to Leno's bipartisan monologue jokes.

Before "geek" came to mean "technically proficient and socially impaired", it meant the guy in the carnival sideshow who would do something requiring no talent, but so disgusting that simple-minded people would pay to see it for a thrill. Biting the head off a chicken, for example.

Coulter is the classic geek. She's discovered there's big money in pandering to those sort of people. To do that, she merely has to think of the most bizarre accusations she can, and then write them down.

As someone here pointed out, such people are a distinct minority, but they do exist in numbers large enough to make it profitable to entertain them.

Personally, I think it's a good idea. If they weren't buying her books, who knows what else they'd be spending it on?

Back when I still had hopes that the Republican Party would fulfill its limited government rhetoric I enjoyed reading Ann Coulter's writings. Now that I have parted company with those conservatives that remain loyal to the Big Government Republican Party, I no longer enjoy reading the writings of those whose main defense for remaining loyal to the GOP is that at least the Republicans aren't Democrats and whose main weapon in political debate is to disparage the character of the Democrats.

On C-SPAN this morning a self-described Christian called in and said "I hate the Democratic Party", "It's the devil party".

Rightwing Christians such as that caller can have the GOP. I no longer have any use for it in its current formation.

I just love the insults from the folks who won't read the book.

Japan has nuclear power, France has nuclear power—almost all modern countries have nuclear power. But we had Jane Fonda in the movie The China Syndrome. Liberals are very picky about their admiration for Western Europe.
Now it turns out even Chernobyl wasn’t as bad as people thought. In a feat of Soviet engineering, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine exploded in 1986, sending chunks of the reactor core flying into nearby farms and igniting a fire at the reactor that burned for ten days. It was the worst nuclear disaster in history—finally giving us a nuclear power plant that killed more people than died in Teddy Kennedy’s car. But as the New York Times reported in September 2005, “Nearly 20 years after the huge accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, a new scientific report has found that its aftereffects on health and the environment have not proved as dire as scientists had predicted.” Instead of tens of thousands of cancer deaths from acute radiation exposure, there were 4,000. Only 50 deaths were directly attributable to the explosion. There has been no increase in leukemia, birth defects, or fertility problems in the surrounding area.
And, I mention again, this was in the Soviet Union. Soviet engineers couldn’t make Jell-O. They’d show up at the World’s Fair and stare at a flush toilet like it was a rocket ship. They turned half of Germany into an inefficient manufacturing center. Do you know how hard that is? It’s like botching a train wreck. Of course the Soviets screwed up nuclear power! Instead of taking the environmentalist hamstrings off the muscular American economy—so we can split atoms, drill, mine, and strip—the Democrats want to preside over our state-managed descent into hell.

Coulter is interesting to watch in the same sense a train wreck is interesting to watch. She is such a parody of an extreme right wing nutjob that I honestly am beginning to think that she is just feeding the wackos to sell books. Laughing all the way to the bank. I think it will be interesting tomorrow night to see if George Carlin rips her a new one on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

What do you mean by "rips her a new one" ?

Let me know, 'cuz I'll be playing softball until 11:00, and the show will be over.

It is a more polite phrasing of a term used to denote demolishing someone. ;)

    I can almost hear Leno now . . .
"Ladies and gentlemen, in this corner, we have the renowned comic, atheist, iconoclast, author of "When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops", the very funny George Carlin! And in this corner we have total fruitcake, heroine of the extreme right, a woman who makes Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh look like flaming liberals, author of "Godless", Ann Coulter!

No it's not. It's a disgusting reference to a person recieving a new anus.

So who's the bad guy ? Why is it OK for you to be disgusting but not her ?

If you think you know what it is, why did you ask? YOU are the one who said that, not me. It looks like you are being disgusting. Did you have a permission slip?

The only book of hers that I read was Treason and I thought she was right on there, it was excellent. However, I don't care for hearing her. I've discussed this before, but I saw her in a debate on "church-state separation" a while back, in which the panelists on her side were Jay Sekulow and David Limbaugh who wrote Persecution. The only panelist I recall on the other side was Barry Lynn, of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, a familiar name to those interested in that issue. She came across as a smart aleck teenager who added nothing to the debate but sarcasm. I don't expect I will read Godless. As she points to "the church of liberalism", many people, including conservatives, make "churches" of many things. Though I fundamentally disagree with much of liberalism, they don't have a monopoly on that.

No, you said it. I'm just wondering why one professed Christian would use that kind of slur against another professed Christian.

Sorry Curtis, you used the word anus, not me. And Ann Coulter is about as much a Christian as Fred Phelps.

She has a problem with the words she chooses, they take the focus off the point, and put it on her. I find it entertaining, most of the time, but sometimes cringe. There are things I wish she didn't say.

You put up a word meaning anus. It was your reference, so stop putting it on me. Admit it was an unChristian thing to say.

And doubting her salvation ? I keep hearing that isn't supposed to be done.

Curtis, reread the posts. YOU used the word. And I didn't say she is not a Christian, I said she is as much of one as Phelps. You read into it whatever else. These are my opinions, and stated as such. I stand by them. I guess you are doubting Phelps' salvation, are you not? Breaking rules?

You're not going to admit to an unChristian remark, eh ? Point at me. You must be a liberal.

And I wouldn't know Phelps if he had just walked in the room, but if he claimed Christ as his savior, I would rejoice.

    I will be watching.

Just like MP said about people watching a train wreck, I look forward to seeing the Tonight Show this evening. Personally, I find both Coulter and Carlin disgusting. I will admit the I used to enjoy hearing Carlin, back when he was somewhat funny; however, lately he comes across as a bitter, angry man who hates everything. Coulter, on the other hand, reminds me of Howard Dean, except that she is much wittier than Dean. Regardless, I don't pay much attention to what Carlin, Coulter, or Dean say overall.
