Ann Coulter Revisited....

I find Ann to be way over the top. Still, I'm addicted to reading all editorials and I have to read her to balance out Ted Rall who is way over the top on the other side. They both are intelligent people with some good things to say but usually void it by having to see the world in complete black and white (just reversing which is white and which is black). For Ann, anything a conservative does is always right and just. For Ted, anything a conservative does is always evil and with the secret intention of stealing foreign oil. Neither allows for any middle ground, or the basic complexity of human affairs in general.

I'm trying to respond to the thread, and not the folks posting. It has seriously diminished my # of posts, but I stay out of stupid arguments on opinions.

Al Franken is a first class jerk, and wouldn't use one of his books to hold a window open.

Perhaps you could ask any one of the other fans of hers to play. There's more than just me.

I like her, read and listen to her whenever I can, and that's all I have to say.

 

One side has to demonise the other in order to get the all important vote. I think anymore the truth is that there isn't a nickels worth of difference between them.

It's just a matter of picking one side and discounting anything negative that the opposition brings up.

 

Curtis, what about for when you run out of toilet paper?

The Secretary of the Army, Robert T Stephens, and his lawyer, John G Adams, then appeared in a televised hearing and asked the senator, "Have you no sense of decency?"

In December, 1954, the Senate censured McCarthy by a vote of 67-22.

Three years later, the Supreme Court ruled that witnesses to legislative hearings retained their full constitutional rights, and could not be held in contempt if the hearings had no legislative purpose.

No witnesses called by McCarthy ever went to jail for refusing to answer his questions. "

 

McCarthy never found a single communist spy. And in the Fort Monmouth case, he was instrumental in allowing two real communist spies to escape when he focused his witchhunt on innocent people.

All the others he accused either turned out to be innocent, or had previously been identified by the government before he got the list.

Of course, if you trust the New York Times, McCarthy was on a witch hunt. Reality says otherwise. Hey, Dan Rather thinks the N.Y. Times is credible.

 

Yeah, exposing people's fantasies often will cause that reaction.

I do not personally own Treason. I have read it when a friend lent it to me. If I remember correctly, he was questioned before some group. When asked if he could name just one commie, he named the assistant to the guy questioning him. It was a classic moment.

As I said earlier, the FBI was able to figure out who they were as well, but they could not trust the white house with the information, as some of the commies were there.

In fact, the "classic moment" was the one in which McCarthy was exposed for the fraud he was.

Welch eviscerated McCarthy when he tried to impugn the loyalty of a young lawyer on Welch's staff. With a cold fury, he exposed for the world to see, how ruthless and evil a man McCarthy was.

Censure followed, and McCarthy, his reign of terror ended, died an alcoholic. This is the sort of person Coulter regards as a patriot.

 

This is as ridiculous as blaming the CIA for arming Bin Laden (when he was one of their agents) or blaming Daddy Bush for doing business with Saddam (pre Gulf War). Most democrats are patriots, like most republicans.

There's an interesting story related to that topic...

In the 80s, Reagan approved the transfer of anti-cavitation technology (makes submarines very quiet and difficult to track) to Toshiba. Toshiba promptly sold it to the Soviets, a huge security breach, because it made it easier for Soviet missle subs to operate undetected.

It meant that shorter-range missles could then threaten US cities and bases.

Later, after he retired, Reagan got a $2 million "honorarium" from the consortium to which Toshiba belongs.

Things often turn out to be different than one might at first assume.
