Five people hit, including a Congressman and a few staffers,
not to mention two law enforcement officers, who fired back
despite their wounds. The shooter shot dead by police.

The shooter's residence is in Illinois, one of only two states (other is MA) where a purchase permit and an owner's license is required for both handguns and long guns. (Wash. DC is the same; NY requires owner's permit for handguns.) Wonder where the guy acquired his rifle.

It was an SKS. Russian design. Right after WWII. Replaced by the Kalashnikov AK-47 in 1954.
