He did not buy a complete lower online. All he could buy would be a 80% which requires extensive machine work to complete.Oh yes, my son bought several parts from several sites and made both an AK and an AR15.

Don't tell me my son did it.No it can not. No firearm can be bought online without being delivered to a physical FFL dealer for in person transfer.
He has tool and die tools. He did not buy a complete lower online. All he could buy would be a 80% which requires extensive machine work to complete.
He did not legally buy a firearm over the internet with no physical dealer making the transfer. If he did, give me his contact info and I will pass it on to my BATFE friend. He will reward your son and the internet dealer with a nice pair of shiny bracelets. Now there might have been a contact made for an in person sale of a used firearm between individuals, but that is not an internet purchase. That is a classified add, etc.Don't tell me my son did it.
Like I said different parts from different dealers.
HankD
Well, he might have legally "built" a firearm. There is a huge difference in " buying" and "building."He has tool and die tools.
He is a mechanic/machinist.
He reloads as well.

Wrong again, you know nothing about my son.He did not legally buy a firearm over the internet with no physical dealer making the transfer. Go back to my original post and you will see I used the word "kit".Well, he might have legally "built" a firearm. There is a huge difference in " buying" and "building."

When he got out of the Navy one of the first things he did was get some kind of federal permit or license to buy and sell firearms and ammo.
HankD
OK I kind of figured that out.Hank, what your son got from the Feds was an FFL (Federal Firearms License). Since the 1968Gun Control Act, mail order firearms transfers can only be done through holders of an FFL. All that Reynolds said was your son could not simply have purchased a gun (the serialized part) without going through or having his own FFL. For us non-FFLers, there are hoops we have to jump through.
Well, you made a wrong statement and are now trying to walk it back. Your son is a FFL holder. He is a legal dealer. He is a dealer buying from a supplier. He is not an individual buying a firearm from the internet. What supplier in this age would not have a website? You really call a federally licensed dealer buying fom a federally licensed distributor "purchasing a gun online"?Wrong again, you know nothing about my son.

We had a disconnect I didn't recognize "FFL" as what he had.No it can not. No firearm can be bought online without being delivered to a physical FFL dealer for in person transfer.
I'm not trying to walk it back. I had no idea "FFL" was what the license is/was called.Well, you made a wrong statement and are now trying to walk it back. Your son is a FFL holder. Great. We are all good. I just did not want people thinking guns can be bought online and circumvent the in person dealer transfer process. We had a disconnect I didn't recognize "FFL" as what he had.
All I remember about it was he very happy when he got it.

I'm not sure if this was the place he bought it from but there is an example.

Agreed.Great. We are all good. I just did not want people thinking guns can be bought online and circumvent the in person dealer transfer process.

They would find out when they tried. Although going to Walmart makes it as easy as it gets. Those are exactly my thoughts. Too many anti-gunners think buying a firearm is as simple as buying a Baskin Robins ice cream cone.
