That does not mean he had no compassion. People just didn't like what he said and misinterpreted it, imo. If you don't outwardly conform to some standard reaction, then you are X. Only a psychopath would not care about this tragedy.

I appreciate your attempt to be conciliatory, so thanks for that.

I think I can now understand Galatian's reducing things to statistics. And I think that I can now understand his making statements that just don't make sense for someone living in the 'Big D'.

As a teacher in 'foreign territory' it just has to be a difficult task sometimes to not think about the violence that does occasionally happen in our schools. Reducing that to mere numbers eases the reality that it does happen at all.

I think that I can respect that.

Well, if ya' didn't read all of the posts, then that would explain why ya' didn't know what was said that really didn't need to be said.

But, some just react with anger whenever they experience pain. I keep telling myself that I will get used to it. Maybe I will get used to it in Heaven.

I wonder how the shooting today in amish country affects the statistical data from Galation.

    Those poor girls...

I guess they would have been safer at home this morning.

    God help our children.

You can say I am emotional over this..... I'll agree.
When it comes to slaying children, I am more emotional than logical.

The anchor on Headline news just said it best. Talking about the amish school shootings she said, "those poor girls, they never had a chance when they went to school this morning."

    How true.

    Father,

I pray that all Christians in America will humble ourselves and pray, "Heal our land . . . "

In the Name of our glorious Savior

    Amen.

Not much. Most of the shootings that happen in schools take place in urban schools, and the few that occur in "good places" don't affect the numbers much.

What's newsworthy about the three that were considered newsworthy was that they happened in places statistically very unlikely to have shootings.

It's O.K. to be emotional about it. Some of us, though, can't afford to be irrational. Kids depend on us to keep them safe.

That being said, if it happened in my school, or to one of my own, rationality would go out the window. Human nature is tougher than reason.

I was bullied and teased in school and it had a great effect upon me, I mitched off school for the best part of the last 3 years. I hated school because of the teasing and bullying. In my case it just frightened me, I was not violent. After school I got beat up by 3 much older lads, 2 were in the army, one hit me from behind so hard with a side punch it knocked my teeth clean out split my lip and nose. It happened just outside my house, I went in to clean myself up while my friend tried to reason with my attackers why they had done it. I was not afraid or anything, I just laughed at them, they took note of it. While I was in the house I thought of the shotgun that was in my brothers room and getting it and going outside and calmly walking over to them and blowing one away. But I said no, this is amazing, I hate hurting anything, I was 17 and I got saved when I was 20

God has mercy upon whom He has mercy and pities whom He wills, do you think that God's Grace comes to us because He see's something that brings about His Grace.

This article sums it up pretty well...

School attacks, although causing great fear, are incredibly rare.
Even including homicides caused by drug deals or other disputes, homicides happen only about 12 to 20 times a year at schools in the U.S., down from about 30 a year in the 1990s, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Less than 1 percent of all homicides among school-age children occur on or around school grounds, or on the way to and from school, the CDC found. And general school violence -- assaults usually -- have fallen by about half since 1992.

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15111439/page/3/

It also has a good description of the steps that actually work to reduce school violence. I'm happy to say that my school district does all of that.

Take a look at it. Good antidote for hysteria.
