Holy or Moral?

Do you see the difference between morality and holiness and how the former is tragically supplanting the latter?

I have been away from many evangelical circles for some time. But I assume he is correct. Our emphasis is holiness to the honor and glory of God. On that note, I would recommend very highly J.C. Ryle's work on Holiness published now by the Banner of Truth.

Also, I believe this preacher has invented a whole new form of preaching sign language. Geek

Many today focus on the things he has stated, such as 'anti-abortion', 'the right candidate' is sought more than walking with Christ, because once they get their right candidate in then they are comfortable. This seems to be the thing that morality seeks - making this world comfy for moral Christians. There are other moral issues pursued by the same, obviously.

Some seemingly feel this is Christianity, and that being patriotic is Christianity, while their lives are not lived in holiness, and they remain biblically illiterate even after many years in church.

These seek to make the world around them moral according to their interpretation, and complain about the lost practicing their lostness as if these would become more moral then the 'Christians' would be happy. At the same time these would say that salvation isn't by works, yet send a conflicting message. This is part of what I see when morality is exchanged for holiness.

I'm not certain of your point brother. I heard someone say from the platform that we are good enough and was exalting man, bragging on man.

I've not been one to ever believe that.

This seems to be the thing that morality seeks - making this world comfy for moral Christians.

A quiet and peaceable life is a Christian concern, and the reason that intercessions for all that are in authority are commanded. People often get caught up in causes and get distracted from the object of their faith, no less with the cause of missions than with any other cause, but it's still no reason to belittle or marginalize the cause itself.

In a few days I will be 71 years old. The last time I was "reprimanded" (before two weeks ago) I was in high school.

Yes, I was recently "reprimanded" just two weeks ago by my pastor. Well, I'm big enough to move on but what really flabbergasted me was what set him off was me trying to encourage the three elders of the church to incorporate language into our Statement of Faith regarding the Sanctity of Marriage as being that between a man and a woman. This was intended to head off any particular problem should it ever arise.

Let me tell ya..., from their reaction one might have thought I introduced a porno flick to the body. I've never seen anything like it. ...I have since distanced myself from the family that runs that church.

This man, Art..., says a lot. I'm afraid however that for the most part it falls on deaf ears. It does sound good but what the hey..., I doubt it sank into the hearts and minds of very many souls who heard him speak and his message will probably not be acted upon.

Perhaps my comment makes little sense to you but it does to me. Until we can overcome the "politics" of any church Sunday Morning Service is but a lecture. For sure you don't ask any questions and..., you don't offer anything but a tithe check. ...so who really cares how many types and styles of Bibles are to be found in a Christian Book Store?

It is indeed a sad state of affairs for the evangelical churches today. May the Lord have mercy. But I keep finding wonderful brethren here and there, though the churches are starving them out by feeding them moldy bread and rotten water to wash it down, those who are born again seek Jesus our Bread of Life and the Word of God with those who call upon the Lord form a sincere heart.

I hear you brother, with all respect you are a bit emotional right at this point, and the situation you are going through has biased you somewhat. I understand. However, I do think you are missing his point and not seeing the big picture. Perhaps it isn't that we need to worry about how many 'others' act upon his message. That concern is a problem in itself, what 'others' will do with it.
