    Poodle -

I can't say I've been in the exact same situation, but similar ones in the past. My prayers are with you and your situation, and I pray that all involved will see past their preferences to what is the heart of the matter, the leading of the worship of God, and the exaltation of Jesus as the Savior.

Your welcome, brother! By the way, what's the name of the offending musical?

That's a very nice work. It was one of the two I was considering for this year. I chose to do the other because this worrk was very similar to what I did last year. I'm a big proponent of variety.

Last year we used the accompaniment trax. This year we're going live.

Even though we're working on Christmas at this time, I'm already thinking Easter and trying to chose the music for that season. Oh well, such is the life of a minister of music.

I've experience some similar things in my ministry as well. i've also had people leave the music ministry. And yes, I did reach out to them and talked with them.

BTW, Aaron, How would you feel about this same situation if the "emphasis" was the other way around? Also what's the big deal if a man or woman chooses "poodle" as a name? So you are now saying that the kind of dog we have is masculine or feminine?

Are you going to have a small orchestra or concert band? I have always dreamt about having that as a resource. A CD just doesn't compare, but we don't have that many instrumentalists, nor do I have that much in my budget.

Poodle was a nickname I was stuck with in high school. I hated it. (Fortunately my WIFE never calls me that) It was a play on my last name. '78 was the year I graduated.

Boy would I love to be back in high school again...even if it meant being called Poodle.

    About using an orchestra:

We have a small orchestra, varies from 2 to 5 any given service.
I have a computer program that I used to put the vocal parts for the orchestra to play.
We have flute, B flat clarinet and alto sax.

I don't understand why orchestrations are so high priced. I think they average $250.

It has a lot to do with royalties and also product development.

LOL isn't that the truth?! I've already chosen our Easter music. It's a musical that I've done before and really feel the Lord would have us present it here at this church. Our Christmas musical was one that I sought the Lord on, chose, and the finance team of our church decided it was too much to spend... they "requested" that I search through our existing library and find things we could piece together. I did that, and I think we'll be ok (the "pieced-together" offering we'll present flows pretty well and includes something for all our choirs to do).

Just wanted to say that this thing is all too common, where people either of a "certain age" or tradition do not know how to seperate "good and evil" from personal preferences. I have been there before, and in many ways, our church is still dealing with it. The funny thing is, I remember my mother telling me that when she was younger, there was a similar problem with the "young people" wanting to sing "choruses" in addition to hymns. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
