I have a iphone. I do not read books on electronic devices period. Just a preferences. For one I want my notes and highlights to exist 10 years into the future and not vanish when technology changes as what happened to the Palm Pilot and old Mac OS. I lost lots of apps, books and notes and guess what? Ever since MacOs leopard classic apps no longer run and ever since Mountain Lion PPC apps don't run. So guess what? It means I lost lots of books and notes from the Palm OS days. I'd estimate a very large number...

It's better to just ignore these people than reason with them and often they have as much sense as a rabbit so some posters are on my ignore list.

Try storing all your notes/stuff on Google Drive. Use Drive to do your word processing, spreadsheets, etc. Since Drive is web-based, it doesn't matter where you are or what browser you use (although it's designed to work best with Chrome).

I use Mac Safari ONLY. I would only use another browser if I was forced such as a application site that won't work under Safari. But Drive is interesting. I have used it a few times. However I prefer to read hard copy books.

Just looked at drive. Cool features however I need far more power to my spreadsheets and word files, MS OFFICE does the trick.

Mrs. R and I bought Kindles a couple years ago. She loves hers and has a hundred or so books on it, but I use mine for the internet, pilot apps, and games (stupid Miniclip Pool ). I have tried to read on the thing, but I cannot do it. I prefer the tactile element and the smell of bound paper.

Will that work on a desktop or laptop? 'Cause after he said no Kindle, it reminded me that he once said he doesn't have a smart phone (if I recall correctly; I've been working 13-hour days lately, and I'm a little punchy....).

They have apps for iPhone/android, tablets and pcs/macs.

If you have Office, stick with it...but consider this: you can create/edit your documents in Word or Excel, save them to Drive, and download to edit them again any time you want. The advantage to this is, if your personal computer ever changes or dies, you will still have access to your documents. The disadvantage is, you *must* have an internet connection to save or download them.

I make all my documents in rich text format (RTF) which can be done in Word, Wordpad, Works, and probably others.

If I think it's something I want to save long term, I email it to myself. Yahoo doesn't delete sent emails automatically, so it's always there.

This came in very handy not long ago. I had made an outline for an adult bible study early last year, and saved it onto a flash drive. Lo and behold, someone broke into my house last November and stole my laptop and flash drive.

Then in April I was asked to lead the same bible study at my current church

I simply went into my "sent" folder, and there it was.

That's a good tip. Another technique is to attach the file, then close the email without identifying a "To" recipient, and without sending. It will be saved to a Drafts folder, accomplishing the same thing.

That there might be a better option, considering an outbox could have an enormous amount of emails to have to sift through.
