Oh brother you got that right! Anything that requires effort will likely be fought against.

Yes we are. 2 Thess 3 says clearly that the one who doesn't work shouldn't eat. That means we are not to give food to lazy people who refuse to work. Shelter is most certainly included in that. Furthermore, the Scripture is replete with commands about not subsidizing sin with our approval.

2 Thessalonians 3:6-12 is instructions for Believers against being idle.

I guess we should be against healing those affected with STD's then right? We shouldn't show love to the sinner, etc., right? Because afterall, if we do, we're subsidizing their sin.

I agree. As a church, we work together to help the helpless. That's our responsibility.

But, as an individual, I have every right to make my desires known to my government. I have a every right to vote for whoever I believe best upholds Christian morality. I have every right (as an individual - not necessarily from my pulpit) to encourage someone to support one candidate over another because of their stand on issues that I believe to be important. As a Christian, I did not give up my rights or obligation to be involved in the political process of our government.

I am first a Christian, a citizen of heaven. I have a responsibility to live like a citizen of heaven. And as a citizen of heaven, as a Believer in Jesus Christ, I have a responsibility to be salt and light in this country I live in. And we are in despirate need of more salt and light!

The issues involved in "Politics" are not seperate from the christian walk. It is false that we christians should vote but just keep quiet other wise. And those laws being passed that are agaisnt scripture should very well be preached. However the left is quite guiltyof bringing in politicians to their churches to candidate. Just ask the Clintons.

We as "citizens" do have "rights" under this nation. Paul used his as a Roman. Yet if you consider scripture we really are not promised any "inalienable rights" as the American forefathers would suggest...in fact Jesus seems to promise hardship in bearing our cross in serving Him. Life, liberty, pursuit of happiness do not seem to be New Testament teachings in an earthly political sense.

Seems to me though that the system is and has been broken and beyond repair. Our being salt and light can probably be saltier and brighter by working around the system than through it.

Most excellent point 2 Timothy-and while I suppose we needn't divorce ourselves from a corrupted political system, this underlines my point: We are better when we are being Jesus's hands and feet-the Body-for the community around us than being a power voting block for the Republican party. As that community grows and is healed and redeemed the system may heal.

Jesus's example for us wasn't one of trying to get earthly power-He wielded huge power. The church wields huge power--but not in the earthly political sense, it wields power as the Body of Jesus Christ.

But to just try a power play-elect the right person for the white house and for the congress and we'll be set...just don't see it.

Suppose tomorrow abortion is made illegal...does that mean we've "won"? Our work is done? No I don't think so. [Though I don't vote if this was put to a referendum I would register and vote to make it illegal-maybe that makes me something of a hypocrite] It means that those women that would find ways would still need to be ministered to and the Crisis Pregnancy Centers would still need to be opened and our work would have to continue on because the murdering wouldn't stop. But as the Body we have to keep working in the community to show that there is another way-therein lies the true salt and light.

SBCPreacher I'm sure you are engaged fully in this area more than I am; your post brought up "rights" and things sorta went from there...

How about over $650 B on a war we can't seem to justify? (more than the Viet Nam war in today's dollars)

    That either.

Oh how I pray that Christians would leave the blood-lust of war to those in the governments and get back to worrying about the lost souls of this world. :praying:

It's hard to answer this question because no one is defining what it means to be political.

I am Baptist and consider myself apolitical. I hate both political parties and dislike all politicians. I vote and sometimes voice concerns over moral issues to my senator and/or reps, but that does not make me political, imo. That just means I'm being a citizen.

I do not want to align myself with any political group at all, nor would I send money to anyone running for office. I consider that politics.

I think it is impossible to be in politics and not get corrupted by it. Just look at how unChristian the dialogue gets here on the Politics forum -and we're just talking! So imagine actually being involved in it.

Why are you folks on the political forum? Are you so sure the Lord doesn't want His views espoused in the political arena, that you are willing to reluctantly come on this forum to warn the rest of us? I keep hearing Christians should stay out of politics, then do so.

Seems like you are saying stay out of politics. So why did you give me such a hard time when I said we shouldn't be holding hands with the atheist evolutionaries in the global warming theatre ?

"Is there anything at all wrong in candidates for public office campaigning in churches?"

    Clintons: "What does IS mean?"

I didn't say Christians should stay out of politics. I just gave my view on politics, and doing that in the Politics Forum makes the most sense.

Look at the OP. Shouldn't all sides be heard, and not just those who like politics?
