Applauding

This is just an observation on my part, not judging or anything like that.

In my experiences, limited to only about 50 years as a child of God, I've noticed a "new(?)" trend of applauding (clapping) rather than (or in place of) a hearty "AMEN!"

I've heard in on the radio, seen it on TV programs, and experienced it personally in a local congregational setting.

I'm certainly not agin' it, and maybe this is a way our beloved "cisterns'" can express their approval of what's being said "from the stage."

Now you know better than to ask me if there's anything I'd like to express! LOL!! :laugh: :laugh:

I wasn't aware that women weren't supposed to say "Amen" in church. I don't say "Amen", but a couple of women in my church say it loudly. I tend to say "That's right!" when the LORD through the pastor says something that speaks to me. I can't help it. It just comes out.

Applauding? If a congregation is applauding God via the song, message, or testimony - then I'm all for it. That's what happens at my church - mostly through testimonies. But occasionally through songs and even sometimes during my offertory piano playing (that always embarrasses me). I try to play offertory songs that people can sing along to that truly exalt God's Name.

It's been customary at my church for about 25 years to utilize applause when moved by God.

Now about that word "cistern"..... ...... I can't give you any applause for that. :laugh:

[Just happened to notice that this is WPE3BQL's post # 349. Now, if anyone was intelligent(!) enough to enlist in the USAF, he/she may remember those three numbers, especially if he/she had the thrill of doing their BMT back in the good old ATC days.]

And of couse, being in the Air Force - well, just beacuse they draw a paycheck - does not necessisary mean they work.

Just what really is the difference? The louder the voice of the singer grows and then reaches the crescendo, the louder the applause-- or the louder the "Amen!" The louder and more emphatic the preacher's voice, the louder hte "Amen!"-- or the louder the applause. Is this another topic such as dressing up for church, reading from the KJV, and singing hymns; as opposed to dressing casual, reading from any translation, and singing more contemporary airs? It seems to be.

The danger with clapping is that one is giving glory to the performance and the performer rather than to God. When I watched Gaither and his guests perform that is the impression I got. They were cheering and applauding the performer. The glory was not given to God.

Just as I would say "Amen" in the midst of a message (at an appropriate time), so I would say "Amen," as in "glory to God," at the end of a song or special. I believe clapping is out of order, but that is my opinion.

As a simple rule of thumb: God doesn't want our applause; he desires our worship.

We applaud when people follow the Lord in believers baptism. We applaud when people join the church. We applaud after special music. The only time we don't applaud is when I preach. Although, they do say Amen. Maybe I'll finish 10 minutes early and see if they applaud.

I don't have the ability to see what people are thinking when they applaud. Maybe some of you can know they are not worshipping God when they applaud, but I don't have that spiritual gift.

Wrong again Sarge!! I retired with the rank of E-6 (Technical Sargeant in the USAF/ANG). Thanks for promoting me to O-1!!:thumbsup:

Based on my being promoted to O-1, I will petition HQ ARPC/DPPR to have my pay adjusted retroactively from 01 Mar 2000 to the present.

I never really had any dealings with any O-1's, but O-2's were a real pain in the place where one normally sits down!!

We had a FMS Maintenance Officer while I was with the 26th FMS Electric Shop who could troubleshoot any system on the F/RF-4C!! Of course, had we fully complied with his suggestions, the wing's Fully Mission Capability status would have been "somewhat diminished."

Then when I was assigned directly to the 38th Tac Recon Sq we had an Admin Officer who'd been an interior decorator from Boston.

As big as Ramstein was back then (We were the HQ for the 4th ATAF (4th Allied Tactical Air Force of NATO) at that time, our offices were the only ones with burlap-covered office doors!!

One time I needed a signature for my week-long leave papers to become "official." Since the 38th's Commander (an O-5) had more pressing military business (Base-Wide Golf Tournament), the Admin Officer could sign for him. Since he was so concerned that "something might happen to me" during that week (I was helping out with the off-base "mission's" VBS.), he was afraid to sign his name in the signature block. So he merely FORGED the Commander's signature!!

And then, one time when it was pouring down rain, windy and otherwise just down-right nasty at Ramstein, I was walking back from our "Dining Facility" to my "Dormitory" when I happened to pass by an O-2. Since I was looking downward, I didn't notice the silver bars on his raincoat. "Airman!! Are you blind??" he asked me. "No Sir, I just didn't see your officer rank, Sir." (This was while I did render a "proper salute.") "Airman, that's not good enough!! I want you to salute me 100 times!!"

Well, it just so happened that by that time the weather had cleared somewhat and an O-6 in the building close to where this encounter took place leaned out his office window and ordered the O-2 to return all of those salutes!! :applause:

I certainly can't judge others. I can only discern by what I have witnessed here and seen on some programs on TV. As you can well imagine many of the TV programs cater to the flesh more than the Spirit. In the end:
