As a parent, I can tell you the largest number of DVD's of any one genre I've got are Disney animated films. Most of the stories that become Disney fils are not new, but instead adaptations.

It seems that a story doesn't become a target until it becomes a Disney film. For example, I know a parent who didn't approve of Disney's "the Little Mermaid" for "biblical" reasons, but had no problem with the Hans Christian Anderson tale from which it came.

Lev 19: 26 Ye shall not eat any thing with the blood: neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times. 31 Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.

Lev 20: 6 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.

Duet 18: 10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

2Ch 33:6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

That should be enough, although there are more verses that deal with this subject.

  3. Mike, substituting a movie and a short little sermonette to bring in crowds and to appease others can be considered as nothing but liberalism. God called men to preach not to show movies. There are so-called preachers all over trying to bring in the world to attract crowds. The problem is God will not bless this I believe. God chose by the foolishness of preaching to save them that would believe. For salvation there must first be conviction and I don't believe the Holy Spirit is going to work through a bunch of heathen in Hollywood instead of a God-called preacher. What do you think the world thinks when they see on a "church" sign "Liar,Liar", "The Apostle", "Gladiator" or any of the other titles they use? Lost people must think of these churches as more of an alternative to the local cinema then the House of God. One preacher said "Some churches don't grow they just swell."

Also the Disney shows are "Sabrina the teenage witch"(I believe that is the title) this is a show about a teenage witch with of course special powers, it has a cat that is supposed to be a trapped warlock in animal form(such practice as animal shape change is a ancient as well as modern occult belief).
"That's so Raven" features the little girl from the Cosby Show. It is about a girl who has psychic powers. It is obviously pro-psychics.

Sometimes I think that our consciences have been seared, by our total immersion into a depraved culture, to the point that we can no longer think with the mind of Christ. For me to condemn Christian support of the evil "Disney empire" could well be construed as hypocrisy, because I stand guilty of supporting an industry that has completely lost it's moral compass, every time I buy a movie ticket. I guess I need to cast the beam out of my own eye before I try to remove the mote that is in my brother's eye.

Starting maybe 6 or more years ago I drastically changed my movie watching practices. I rarely see an R movie. The ones I have seen in the theater I researched them drastically to see what was wrong with them.

When I was young i went to and loved Disney, I even lead a little parade with my sister. I have many found memories. I hate the direction they have gone. I think one thing many of you do not realise is that disney has other movie companies that put out their R rated stuff etc. The movies that will not be seen as family friendly they put on the other labels. I urge all of you to research this. As believers we have to know where our money is going. I am in the planning of buying something that cost in the range of $400-$600+. The product I had all but decided to buy I found out was produced in a country that descriminates against Christians, so now my purchase is on hold. Convictions are valuable to your walk. What you miss out on now will reward you later.

Most of the older ones don't bother me as much as the new ones especially the ones they do with Pixar now. Cuss words in them and some distasteful things. Meant for the adults to go see the movie to, thay add some things that thankfully go over the kids heads but we get them. As someone else stated, I think Walt is doing some turning right now.
    Love in Christ, Angie
