Are there errors in the Bible?

I would be interested to see your support for this. I was just looking through Helwys confession of 1611 after his split from Smyth where he outlined the differences between himself and Smyth. But he does not address this point. I did quite a bit of research into the Baptist-Anabaptist connection several years ago and this did not arise as a major point of distinction.

But even if it were true, I would just as quickly say that Helwys was wrong on this. The atonement is clearly a satisfactory atonement. It is not exemplary. 1 John 2:2 uses the term "propitiation" which means an expiation of God's wrath. I do not think you can get around this point. Scripture is explicit on it.

 

Jeremiah is not the only prophet or biblical writer to view the sacrificial system in a less than favorable light. Take, for example, Amos 5:21-22, 24; Hosea 6:6; Isaiah 1:11-17; Jeremiah 6:20; Micah 6:6-8; Psalm 51:16-17. I think Hebrews 10:5-9 sheds some light on the true nature of the atonement - the defeat of all forms of violence and oppression (Hebrews 2:14).
