that He can save those in such circles, and use them to evangelise thruthose musical genres?

Know that MANY christians involves in country, and some in rock...

Should they all leave, and just play now 'church music?"

While I am not interested in being part of either the only thing we have in scripture that might deal with this is that we are to do what we do in an orderly manner and it should be a cheerful noise. If a group of people want Country or Rock music then that is their choice, like I said it is not for me.
The main issue is are their lives in order, are they living holy lives or do they look and act like the world?
In all we do there should be a clear distinction from the world and always point and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ no matter where we are at or what we are doing.

Brother, there is plenty of "church music" (ancient past, recent past, and present) that offends the Lord and doesn't reach the lost or uplift the sanctified to worry about whether or not some Christians play or listen to or evangelize through "non-church music".

It isn't the genre - it isn't what tickles our fancy or ears or relaxes us or inspires us - it's about what pleases God.

Yes there is. I know numerous people in Christian rock groups - and even heavy groups and rap. They are fantastic missionaries for the Gospel.

Sure there is....(or there, at least, used to be). I remember the glory days of Petra....Greatest Christian Rock group ever....ever. Greg X. Volz and the band could perform the Hallelujah Chorus from the "Messiah" perfectly....Live. Unparalleled musicianship. They were fantastic.

Any...ANY...form of muisic can be be used for christian worship.

I personally have played...myself, or with a band...the following music forms and instruments, for God...

Country, Rock, Celtic, Blues, Jazz, percussion, Acoustic guitar, Electric guitar, Dobro, Bluegrass banjo, and Oldtime Clawhammer banjo

I saw Petra 3 times when I was in high school....many many moons ago. My sons snag my CD's now and then and listen while doing their chores.

Some local churches and businesses sponsor a Christian music festival every August in our town. It's called Downpour Music Festival. We have seen Newsboys, KJ52, Jeremy Camp, David Crowder, Seventh Day Slumber, Plum, and a bunch of others. There are usually 4 bands Friday night and 4 on Saturday. Then Sunday we have church in the park which involves a local pastor preaching and a praise team from a local church leading the music....except last year, when David Crowder stayed an extra day to lead worship.

Christian music, regardless of style, is something we enjoy. It would be music that honors God and keeps Christ at the forefront.

That sounds awesome!! And having worship led by Crowder must have been great. He's weird looking but talented and has such a heart for the Lord.

A quick study of the history of our hymns would....

...surprise you, in that a lot of the tunes are from bar songs, etc.

So, I have no problem with artists who are "souled" out to Jesus and singing what their particular genre as long as it reaches the hearts and souls of the lost, and strengthens the walk of the saved... :praying:

Personally, I enjoy Contemporary Christian. I'd even go so far as to say "Christian Rock". However, my personal standard is that there are certain types of music that christians ought to stay away from, such as hard rock / metal and rap. My feelings stem from the connotation that these genres have. They have been completely overtaken by the world, and as such, using them identifies us with the world too much for me. I am not saying they are sin. I am just saying that in my opinion, there needs to be more separation.

For instance, you wouldn't hold a bible study in a bar (although a few years ago I read a newspaper article of a men's bible study being held at Hooters). Even though there would be nothing technically wrong with it, we wouldn't allow ourselves to identify with the world in that way. For me, music is the same.

If your conscience allows you to listen to those genres and still glorify the Lord, by all means, go ahead. That's part of our christian liberty. But for me, I can't do it.

until a couple of weeks ago my goatee was getting like his. My bride likes it. I have since trimmed and started letting the sides grow in for a full beard.

For those who like heavier stuff We As Human and Demon Hunter are in my playlist. We saw We As Human during the same weekend as Seventh Day Slumber. My youngest was 4 and I taught him to head bang. It was a great time.

Have you listened to Lecrae? He's an amazing young man with such a heart for the Lord. I met him a couple of years ago along with his wife and kids and I can tell you that not only is he the real thing, he's able to reach a people group that we can't. He's got an incredible ministry!! Here's one of his songs based on Piper's "Don't Waste Your Life"

http://youtu.be/7RWEllqh5J0

Here's another - Will You Take Me As I Am?

So while I agree a lot of rap is not good, there are great Christian rappers who are taking that genre for Jesus.

Get a good book on music and you quickly learn a "bar song" is not a tune that was sung or played in bars:)

Obviously all music is going to have a popular element in it.

So in that sense it is all worldly music.

But my stars, if we can't tell that music that has some folks literally bumping and grinding in the pews is inappropriate for use in public worship we really need a revival.

I almost puke at times when some want to make church over so the folks hungover from the bars on Sat. night don't feel at all out of place in church Sunday morning.

Reminds me of a dear friend with whom I disagree strongly on the music they use at their mission to the Navajo's. They make a point of following the traditional music, being culturally relevent, and never pay attention to what the different drum beats, moving to the left, etc mean to the Navajos. So they teach them one thing with words and another with the music.

We do the same. We like a beat or a melody and think we can "Christianize" it without asking what that piece of music was written to accomplish--what is it "saying" without words.

I'm sure you can all imagine the va va va voom beat that goes with skits about strippers you used to see on tv. Now, tell me how on earth and why on earth we would want to "redeem" that for use in the church?

Some would point out that David danced naked before the Lord (or let his undies show), was chastized by his wife whom he immediately relegated to the back tent and say God honored him for his dance.

I'm open to being taught, but just don't find the getting carried away that way praised by God. David WAS a man after God's own heart, but that doesn't mean everything he did was approved.

Ah well, back down off my soap box.

I can't stand rock whether it has Christian words or not, but I also can't say without a doubt that it's wrong to enjoy it. I love southern gospel music, which is Christian words put to country music. Can any music be called sinful? Is the music itself without words sinful in some way? Like everyone else I have my likes and dislikes, and I do tend to believe that rock is not music--just noise, but like most things that's just a matter of opinion and preference.
