Thank you Dr. Bob for that great explanation of these passages. And Abiyah, I too have seen this many times too, but I wonder if that is the best way. Is that the way it is supposed to be.
I know of two places in the OT when the leaders were removed and these were both at times of judegements. Sorry the reference is not in my mind and I can't grab my Bible at this moment, but I know that one is Zedekiahs rebellion.
I have heard this taught that the reason so few men take their place of leadership is because we are under judgement. Of course if ladies would get in their places in the home it would help the men too.

I agree with the Olive Branch...and would just like to add....men who are living according to God's word should be the leaders,(spiritually) in their homes and churches....I love learning from my husband,he is wiser and much more knowledgable of scripture than I am. We discuss God's word alot and I am often amazed at how like minded we are and yet,I learn from him, also. But,in regards to salvation,we all have access to God as beleievers and are on the *same plane* in regards to to our justification,sanctification...and our future in heaven. So,we equally have salvation, but we are the weaker vessel in many ways....

I don't think there is a single generalization that is universally true about one sex or the other (beyond those that specifically have to do with reproduction).

Okay now that I have given it more thought, no is my answer. Everyone has a gift and it could be that understanding Doctrine is one for a certian man or a certian woman. I have a lot of questions about the Bible but I do understand the doctrine pretty well. I pick it up and it soaks in, with help from the Holy Spirit that is.

I don't think Deborah was spiritualy or doctrinly weak, and God choose her as a judge. Or was God wrong and should have choosen a man.

Well, unfortunately, I think it has come to a point in America that women, not all but a fair margin, are the spiritual leaders in the home. This is unfortunate because the Bible has not outlined it for us in this way.

Of course, women ARE supposed to teach. The older women are supposed to be examples to and teach the younger women, though not all of the congregation.

I don't believe in female preachers, that is an oxymoron. But, the women are supposed to instruct the other women. If there is no male spiritual leader in the home, then the women usually take the helm and teach the children. I know this was the case, until a few years ago, in my family.

I don't know if I'd call them weaker spiritually, after all look at the Old Testament examples of women. Ruth and Esther come to mind. When it talks about Eve was decieved, I just think that it is laying out that they were decieved. One of them had to be, it could just as well have been Adam. Of course, if that were the case, then men would have to give birth. OUCH! Then again, I believe this is why God made man the head over the woman.

Anyway, my point is, God made man the spiritual leader, but sometimes it doesn't happen this way. I would like to thank all of the women that have had to take the reigns and become the spiritual leader in their home. I don't condone it, but if the man is not or will not, then the woman has twice the courage for stepping up and teaching her children the things of God. God Bless you sisters.

Judges 4:8 And Barak said unto her, "If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go."

Sounds like most men in my church!

    Dr. Bob Griffin,
Why do you think most men in your church are like that? I am curious to know why you believe this is a common problem.

Have found most men will allow their wives/women to do whatever they are willing to do, and not take up leadership unless forced to (or by default).

In our Mo Synod church next door, they won't allow women to hold ANY office or to VOTE on any matter. The pastor shared over lunch the other day that if he allowed women to do it, the men would LET THEM do it all!

Part of it is the nature of the man in our society. Passive, demasculinized by the women's lib movement. One shared with me, "Most women are twice the man I'll ever be!"

Estrogen in cow's milk? Women teachers? No role models? Lots of theories as to why this is happening.

So it is a matter of educating and FORCING men to do what men ought to do. The Bible has many examples of this -
Look at the composition of your church. Are there as many men as women? Are all the leadership positions filled with capapble/qualified men? Who shows up on work days, to teach SS, to witness for the faith?

I agree with you. Now, here are my comments (no rotten tomatoes, please).

    My observations:

Women in leadership roles (generally speaking) in Corporate America seem to lose their femininity. They often become tough, often crass, power hungry, eager to back stab and cut throats to climb up the Corporate Ladder. And women in the average work place "tell all" about every relationship they have, casual or otherwise, and have the filthiest mouths that would make a Sailor Blush!

That being said, more General observations:

Men in general in today's society are weak. Ever noticed commercials? Most are geared to make Dad out to be a loser, a dolt, the butt of the joke. Women's Liberation has taken over, folks, and I (even as a woman) am not happy about it.

Men are spiritually weak. They are weakened because they have become morally bankrupt, wanting free casual sex with no responsibility and no strings attached. A dinner & a movie (sometimes not even that) and they expect the "ultimate payment" in return.

Men are spritually weak. There are tons of deadbeat dads out there. Why? They walked out. Wanted casual sex without the strings attached. Or they walked out on a marriage of a couple or many years because the "grass was greener."

Men are spiritually weak. They have let women rule when it comes to abortion. A woman's "choice." Where is the outcry from all the men, the fathers of these aborted babies? Where are the paternal lawsuits over aborting these unborn babies? Where are the grandparent lawsuits?

Men are spiritually weak. They refuse to take their God-Given Responsibility to be the Leader of their family or the Spiritual Head. That's one reason there are so many women in leadership roles in today's Church...Because men are weak.

Not because God designed them that way, but because they don't their priorities straight. And it's all because of spiritual deconditioning or spiritual bankruptcy, IMHO.

I'm still old fashioned. I don't think women should play football or be in the military. I don't care about Corporate America's so-called glass ceiling. But those ideas probably went out in the 1950s.

(OK, I'm ducking just in case there's a tomato or two! LOL! :D )

Many a female member of my churches has been there to hold up this pastor's arms in prayer. Many a woman has filled those empty pews on a bad night. Many a woman member has offered those words of courage that makes one go on even if they didn't know you were suffering.

Thank the Lord for women in the church. Thank God for women in my life. I mean that in the highest of honours.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I agree with you, SheEagle. And now we all know why I'm still single. :D

I think men, the real men, have been criticized so much about letting women be in an equal position as they, that they(we) are losing the will to fight against it.

There is only so much nagging one can take. :D Whatever happened to the rule of thumb? I'm just kidding.

God Bless. And may God lead us in the straight and narrow way. Hopefully, we will not be blinded so as not to see it. Bro. James
