Are you 1,000% sure you're saved?

I have recently heard (bothersome) sermons on the topic of Jesus saying, "I NEVER KNEW YOU," to "people who thought they were Christians" at the time of judgment. These speakers spoke about "christians" who regularly: attend church, attend Sunday school, give to missions, attend prayer time, tithe faithfully, practice fellowship, teach bible class...even give to the poor. And then at the end, the dreaded, "I never knew you."

How can you absolutely, positively know that you are saved? To rephrase the question, are we 1,000% sure that Jesus will say to us in the end, "I know you." What I'm saying is--can we trust ourselves to know for sure that Jesus knows us? :saint:

It is a troubling passage. Scripture presents those rejected as truly believing that they were saved. They were active in ministry and acknowledged that He was Lord. Paul tells us to test ourselves...I believe this to be a continual process and not a one time event. 1 John is an excellent reference.

I am confident and trust that if I continue to believe, that I am saved now and will be saved in the end. But I am also aware that at any time, by an act of will, I could freely choose to turn my back on God, renounce my salvation, and be lost in the end if I never repented and turned back to God.

So, to sum up, my response to the question would be: I am saved, am being saved, and will be saved, if I persevere to the end, by the grace of God through faith.

Eternal Security is something I think we all struggle with as we become more familiar with God's Word. But usually only when we start hearing preaching as you share you have. And while we can immerse ourselves in the teaching, preaching, and commentary of those who hold to Eternal Security, I view this as something that the Lord means for us to find as we understand His Word better.

This is one of those treasures He has laid up for us, and when we do come to realize that the Word of God is trustworthy, and that our faith in Christ is well placed, there is in that moment an event that I might describe as possibly the greatest A-Ha! moments we will ever experience in our lives. And as we grow in His Word, we will, one by one, continue reaching into that treasure and bringing out the most amazing possessions we will ever have access to this side of Glory.

Robert, when the teachings such as you mention arise, and doubts arise, keep in mind that these are things which I believe the Lord challenges our faith with. And when you have overcome this one battle, if you have not already, the ones ahead will be far easier, because then you will have the foundational truth of the Gospel to build upon. There is nothing surer than that foundation.

Paul puts it like this...

11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.


As you build on that foundation, don't let others try to throw in building materials not supplied by God.

I feel that those who are giving these " I NEVER KNEW YOU" sermons need to re-evaluate their Christian walk. Those who you have illustrated don't walk that walk of Faith because they don't know Christ. They walk it because they do. Its ALL what Jesus Christ has done for them, that enable them to walk the walk of Faith... I have ALL the evidence according to scripture that I am saved... Not by what I have done but by what Jesus Christ has done 10,000 percent... But Until I stand at the great white throne and Christ says to me "Come Ye Blessed of my Father" then and only then will I know 1,000 percent... Brother Glen

God wants us to know if we are saved or not. He had John write 1 John so we could know and so others could also come to know. He says this;
1 John 5:13These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

If you can honestly say that there is a chance that you could renounce your salvation you are not saved. Paul says "I know in Whom I have believed." There is believing and there is knowing. The latter is salvation. No believer can ever unknow the Lord. Faith is not about believing He is but knowing He is and following Him. True biblical Repentance is not repented of.

No those passages I gave were appropriate for the question asked. The OP wdid not ask how to be saved but how to know if we are. If he is not doing this then he can ask how to be saved. This is how to know.

I want to thank you for the praise but I did not write scripture. God correlates the keeping of the commandants to with salvation. The problem is that today few believe what He says.
Like I said I would be glad to explain how to be saved if you like. PM me if you do not want to discuss it in public.

Look into the mirror for foolishness. The scripture is clear. We can know we are saved if we keep the commandments. I would say you are in the majority today with those who deny the scripture and deny the Lord God as being true since you do not believe what is written.

That you are okay with putting an ambiguous statement into a public arena which could be misinterpreted by those who may not be aware of how people are saved is one thing, but that you refuse to clarify that you were not intending to imply salvation is of works through commandments which you refuse to identify...

A person that looks to themselves for assurance of salvation and thinks they find is deceived. One who thinks they are keeping the commandments for salvation is deceived. One who say's their saved and the question of am i saved or not, never enters their mind is deceived.
