Yeah, right. whatever. I guess Board Administrators can say anything they want. Pick on anyone they want.

If I have a slightly higher intelligence than an ape, I think the subject and intent of this thread does not include picking on others, so why don't you stuff your dislike of others somewhere else ?

Well, I've been a part of several different types of Baptist churches. Each of them fit my needs at the time or I was to young to know better.

I am a Baptist at heart. The SBC matches my beliefs. However, it is the particular church and how it opperates and believes that is of more interest to me than what title is on the door.

I was saved in the Missionary Baptist Church my parents had us attending during our years up north. They were a loving and most certainly Christian group. That is all I really remember about them.

When we moved south to the middle of nowhere, there wasn't a MBC to be found. So we went to a SBC. I was 10 but that church fit the budding beliefs that I held. By the time I left there I had some pretty hard and fast ideas of how a church should be run and what it should teach. So...

When we moved to town we joined the church I picked out(at 13). It was Free Will Baptist. They did the footwashing thing, and believed that you could turn your back on your salvation if you so choose. But that wasn't a big thing in my book. The big thing was that they preached against sin and taught us kids how not to sin. We didn't all listen, but they tried. They also followed the ordinances (baptism and communion) in the way I had been raised. We stayed there until sin entered the congregation through it leaders and the church split. By that time I was grown and went to a variety of Baptist and Freewill Baptist churchs. The SBC fit me best so I stayed there and intend stay there.

But...of the different congregations around here that I would visit if I had to leave my present church, a couple would be SBC but one is Primitive Baptist. They have a lovely congregation of friendly people who are glad to include whoever wishes to worship. There are also a couple of Church of God churches in the area whose beliefs are mostly in line with my own and don't emphasize speaking in tongues and such like. It would take all of the other churches being unsuitable before I'd go that direction.

Primitive baptists do not even belief faith in Christ is necessary for salvation, so I think we should keep the discussion to actual baptists, not lost people who claim the name.

I believe that the historic doctrine of most Baptist Churches adhered more closely to Scripture than any other denomination. I am currently a member of a Southern Baptist Church, but as I noted on an earlier topic, I believe that many Southern Baptists Churches have departed from their doctrinal roots. If there were a Reformed Baptist Church or possibly a Primitive Baptist Church in this area I would probably join with them.
Ditto. There is a Bible Church in my area I would join, but my wife vetoed it.

That is the job of the Holy Spirit, not a preacher. Thats whats wrong with a lot of Baptist Churches today, then you have the other extreme of "social" sermons. Whatever happened to verse by verse bible teaching?

Watch your mouth, er fingers, or you will be taught about sassing a lady.

I reread D's post to be sure she wasn't PICKING on others or saying she DISLIKED any. She said she could not agree with those groups.

Hello? I don't agree with them either. They are not the kind of Baptist I am, nor even fit the definition of Baptist that I have.

We have the right to express opinion. NO ONE picked or disliked. Matter of fact, piney, the only BAD post here was YOURS.

Grasshopper, surely didn't mean that a preacher shouldn't preach againt sin? Or that a church shouldn't provide strategies to it's young people on how to avoid falling into Satan's snares?

What are preacher's for then?

Do you mind clarifying, please?

Sorry Grasshopper, I got caught up in the first part of your post and missed the question.

We got plenty of verse by verse teaching and memorization as well. Both in service and in SS and Dicipleship training.

She did not pick on anyone just their doctrine. I hope I am not known by my doctrine, but by God.

Actual baptists ? I'll let you go on that, DD, considering your ignorance about Primitive Baptists and Missionary Baptists, but, maybe you would like to start a thread on 'Did God require that His people FIRST have faith in Christ BEFORE He be their Savior" ?

Of the few I have known all of them were saved. So what do they believe then that is so different?

I was led to the Lord by means of an Interdenominational organization. After two years the Lord led me to an IFB church. In a matter of a few months the leader of the interdenominational organization gave me a choice: either join our organization and leave your church, or join your church and leave the organization. You can't do both. I was then baptized and have been IFB ever since.

"Elect" does not mean "Elite"

Elect is a scriptural term. Elite is a worldly term. Elite implies arrogance and pride. "The Elect" are humbled by the Grace of God. There is no room for boasting but rather praising God is the only proper response.

I know whom I have believed:

In retrospect,

I was "sprinkled" into "The Church"--RC, at birth; they also "brainwashed me" through age 10. I still recite "Hail Mary" in my sleep.

I became a follower of John and Charles Wesley during my early teens--mostly to meet girls.

My later teens were spent getting more confused by the followers of Joseph Smith.

A "repeat after me" sinners prayer put me on the Arminian Road at age 23--still working for salvation. Jacob A. had me convinced for many years.

At age 56, the Lord brought me out of the bondage of works.

Lord help me Jesus--I have wasted it so.

I have learned: one can join every "church" in the world and still be "lost as a goose in a snow storm".

Salvation is of the Lord; Jesus paid it all.

What churches still teach the Truth?-the ones built by Jesus--not a man or woman.

How are they described: Sovereign Grace, Landmark, Missionary, Baptistic--the Bible variety.

Selah,

Bro. James

I got to be buddies with a Pentacostal fella who worked for the local "funeral home" in town---we'd joke back and forth about which was better-being Pentacostal or being Southern Baptist---

I'd tell him stuff like---Yeh!!!! Your folks over at your church are about as alive as that fella layin' over there in that casket!!!!"

Once--I was at the funeral home---one of the Pentacostal men had passed away--I knew the fella--that's why I was at the funeral---anyway---my Pentacostal buddy was there and his pastor!!! He got to "smartin' off" at Blackbird---Pentacostal this, and Pentacostal that---we sing better, we preach better, etc.---really eggin' it on in front of his Pentacostal preacher(who was hee-hawin' at the whole thing!)

I looked at my Pentacostal buddy---and in front of his preacher I said

"Darias!! You know what I'd be if I wasn't Southern Baptist??"

"No, what???"

"Buddy, I'd just be plumb ashamed!!!!"

You could have heard a pin drop!!!

OTOH, a significant chunk of IFB's are KJVO as a rule, which contradicts fundamentalist doctrines. In other words, many "IFB"'s are not "F". Should we then consider them not baptists? Some will say yes, and some will say no.

Primitive Baptists have a different view of salvation. LE, I don't care if you are a PB. False doctrine about salvation is about the most obvious characteristic that a person is lost.

Surely you jest, DD. (Though I don't think you have it in you.) You think the PBs are lost?

How, for pity sake, did I get dragged into this thread, DD? I am not a PB and haven't even posted here on this thread! I know I'm unforgettable, but this is over the top!
Have I driven you over the edge?
