Calvinism has co-opted biblical truths and framed it under a system of unconditional election AND reprobation/preterition, and it's that aspect that people reject, distinguishing themselves from Calvinism.

In light of the above post, so we don't believe the Gospel? The gospel must be preterition then. I have been discussing Hunt with a Calvinist webmaster, and he agrees that if one makes statements like this, one should be consistent and separate from them as unsaved false bretheren.

(You can see this friendly discussion as it is progressing, here. This was part of a site that someone posted here a while back, and I liked it, sent in the link to my page plus some comments, and then we began the discussion and gave it its own page).

I'm sorry, but it is so annoying when Calvinists say this, because THEY are always the ones talking about "the leap of faith", and a "secret plan" that our "fallible minds" cannot know. But this only to justify their doctrine of reprobation/preterition when their rationalizing runs out.
Perhaps upon arriving at that conclusion, you have ALREADY crossed into the unknowable, and read too much into scripture. We're opposing it not just because "we don't like it", but because it goes beyond scripture and contradicts certain things in it. (Of course, this is when the "leap of faith" is thrown up at us) So don't try and knock the leap of faith now, and only use it when it is to your advantage.

Thank you Dr. Ketchum. Excellent explanation. I have noticed that the Calvinists here have simply ridiculed your article and have not chosen to reply. Maybe this is because you are correct and they cannot answer against your Scriptural foundation concerning the errors of Calvinism.

HE did not provide any arguments against Calvinism. What he said about Calvinism is simply not true. He attacked some things he made up. Additionally, to reply to such a lengthy post would take more time and bandspace than most of us calvinists are willing to do. The things he said can be readily refuted through a number of sources in print, including Scripture. I have begged for people to stop constructing stupid straw men becuase that does not help discussion. I wish we could do that.

Larry, amen on the straw man syndrome.

It reminds me of the fellow that ran Claude Pepper out of his US Senate seat in 1948 by campaigning against "Red" Pepper, and by accusing Pepper of "being a sexegenarian who has committed nepotism with his sister." Apparently most Floridians at the time did not know that this ominous-sounding phrase meant that he was a dude in his 60s who had hired his sister to work for him.

Hello. My name is Josh and I'm a Calvinist, though I don't hold to all Calvin taught. I believe it was Spurgeon who called Calvinism a nick name for the gospel.
