No matter where my family is at when we're dining...we always say a blessing to God for our food. I remind my children that we should always thank God for the things we can have.Originally posted by Copper:
I am curious how many of you say your blessing before your meal? Even in a restaurant? Not just a quick one, but a real blessing.
Lots of people I know who claim the blood do NOT say their blessing in a public place.
Do you?
How does one judge another’s heart and motives? Yes, asking the Lord’s blessing in public can be a Pharisaical act if it is done to be observed by men. Jesus said they had their reward. On the other hand, who can criticize the sincere believer who bows his or her and prays openly in gratitude and genuine thankfulness to God? The leaven of the Pharisees, Christ said, was found in their hypocrisy, not their individual acts of piety. Don’t you think there is sometimes a Pharisaical spirit in piously pointing out possible Pharisaical actions?Originally posted by superdave:
I always loudly say at some point during my prayer "I thank thee that I am not as these publicans" Just so I don't get labeled a coward. How ridiculous do we want to make this topic. Be thankful for everything, including your daily food, don't make some big pharisaical ritual out of it. I smell some additions to the scriptures in this discussion.
Depends on your motive and intent which only you and God know.Originally posted by TexasSky:
Where is the line between having the courage to honor God and "saying your prayers before men," like a Pharisee?
At times I do. Most times I don't. I don't do it for you and no I'm not a coward. There's a verse about praying in your closet, not to be seen by men. And there's really no Scriptural command to even bless our food. All we have to have is an ATTITUDE of thankfulness to God and that is all that is necessary.Originally posted by Copper:
