Armed Citizen Shoots Gunman Who Opened Fire at Back-to-School Event at Florida Park

A citizen with a license to carry a firearm saved lives by shooting a man who opened fire at a Florida park over the weekend.

At a “Peace in the City” event in Titusville, Florida attended by approximately two hunderd people on Saturday, a bystander heard the shots, drew his legal firearm and shot the gunman in the head. The gunman was taken to a local hospital for treatment, WFTV-TV reports:

What you guys don't seem to understand is that it was an armed citizen who started the shooting.
An armed citizen intending to commit murder, perhaps murder of children, was stopped by an armed citizen exercising his constitutional right to carry a firearm.

A little clearer I hope.

Every shooting so far has been by an "ARMED CITIZEN"!
If he were not armed, he would not be a "shooter"!
And I can probably guarantee - 99% - that he thought he was the ONLY "armed citizen" in the vicinity, else he would not have decided to play Jesse James.:Whistling

As Americans we have the right to bear arms.

Yes there is the consequence of the abuse of a society allowing itself to freely bear fire arms (and many other abuses related to a free society).
Admittedly better regulations would more effectively control the abuse.

However, the 2nd Amendment of the Bill of Rights is part of the legacy of our Founding Fathers and will not change unless "We the people" so choose and that seems very unlikely it ever will.

We should not forget the original intent of our founders. Self defense is a real benefit of the 2nd Amendment, but the real purpose of an armed citizenry is to protect us from the oppression of government, both foreign and domestic. And, that my friend, the Brits will never ever understand.

If you cannot, or will not, recognize the difference there is no hope for you. :)
I didn't think my post needed clarification. :Rolleyes
1. The point is that it is the availability of guns that means that every guy who becomes bi-polar or who just flies of the handle for some reason can find a firearm and shoot down his supposed enemies.

2. The idea that armed citizens can prevent this is a fallacy Sooner or later someone is going to hear gunshots and draw his weapon; another guy is going to think he's a gunman and shoot him and a third person will then shoot the second. When the police arrive they will find a whole load of people rushing round shooting each other. So what are they going to do?
This is a very obvious scenario. If you have never thought of it before, just remember you heard it here first. It's only a matter of time.
And, that my friend, the Brits will never ever understand.
You are absolutely right. I love all you Americans dearly, and on most topics you seem relatively sane. But on guns, you are completely crazy. It would be funny if it weren't for all those dead kids. :Frown

And that, as Forrest Gump would say, is all I have to say about that. It's your country, and you have the right to run it the way you want, just like we do in Britain.

Not according to the FBI which says that armed citizens prevent crimes of violence over 2 million times per year in the US.

Sooner or later someone is going to hear gunshots and draw his weapon; another guy is going to think he's a gunman and shoot him and a third person will then shoot the second.
And has this ever happened? Can you give us some numbers where this fantasy has happened? Or is this just the imagining of your heart?

London has a crime wave that exceeds NYC in deaths. We now know that UK justice depends on class and that UK prisons are filthy dens of corruption. But the UK has the right to run it the way they want.

Many who are against this, would see this asbeing excessive fortc, as they would rather he be talked than shot down!

There's no accounting for how some people think. I guess they think an innocent being dead is preferable to a criminal being killed to save an innocent's life.

Not very smart.
