As a Wedding Sponsor in non-Christian chapel

One time my wife was invited to be one of the main sponsors; she said that when the wedding was being held, she can't take on the feelings being surrounded by huge idols and icons.

What's your take on this? She didn't want to turn the offer down so not to hurt the feeling of the couple.

I have had to turn such offers down, and would do so again without hesitation. There was a woman recently who wanted to be married at our church, and she was denied (the reason is not important, but she was living in lawlessness and refused to renounce it). However, the Methodist minister with the pagan totem laminated to his cross was more than happy to "reach out".

Also, any "marriage" performed outside biblical boundaries is not a marriage, except in the eyes of the world.

I don't intend to make so many technicalities.

But what about those Christians invited for a Christmas celebration to non-Christians homes or say, a funeral service inside the non-believers' home?

Was it really the place or the intent?

Would I attend such a funeral? Perhaps. If nothing else, it would give me the opportunity to witness. But, would I officiate? Probably not. Just as I will not perform a marriage that is not biblical. (I also will not perform a marriage without biblical counselling, except in rare cases in which I know those involved are biblically sound.)

I would be hard pressed to perform a marriage for someone who was divorced from a biblical marriage, but someone who was "married" only in the eyes of the world, I would not be so hesitant, as long as I am convinced that they are now biblically sound.

I would not, however, attend a Christmas celebration in a non-Christian home.

Paul preached on Mars Hill, a place for the philosophers (unbelievers) of the time, why can't I speak in a Jehovah's WItness Hall or Synagogue, if given the opportunity,,or attend a funeral, wedding or other ceremony?

It takes more than presence to endorse what they believe.

I perform marriages to supplement my income which at the moment is nothing so it helps.

Attending would not be a negative thing, in and of itself.

Approving would be.

The information that we've been given is that she's been asked to be a "sponsor", in a place full of pagan idols and such.

Just as I'm not going to officiate a funeral and say a bunch of lies about how good a person is, I'm not going to perform a wedding, implying God's blessings, upon something that is ungodly.

What exactly is a sponsor and what do they do? It is not a term that I have ever heard in relation to weddings.
