Featured article on website of Reformed brotherhood 'The Gospel Coalition', has Hunter Nicholson eulogizing Donald Macleod:

The Gospel Coalition ❧ Donald Macleod (1940–2023): In Memoriam

abstract of research paper by this Hunter Nicholson in the Scottish Journal of Theology:

"...Macleod in his public theology consistently used language and concepts which were also trademarks of Latin American liberation theology. By comparing his work to the three mediations of liberation theology, I show it is possible to speak of Macleod as exhibiting a distinctive Scottish Reformed theology of liberation. I propose this connection should be understood through Macleod’s constructive engagement with his own Scottish (and specifically Highland) Reformed tradition, whose interest in liberation carries surprising parallels with Latin American liberation theology"

What a shame. The Gospel Coalition was, in my opinion, at one time, pretty reliable.

Donald Macleod was a Calvinist who taught:
"...if we have robbed the Gospel of the great elements of mystery and wonder and depth and paradox—then we have failed in our mission and cheated our people. . . ."

On the other side, we might consider the gospel as so simple even a child can understand it and embrace it.

God created everything.
We are conceived in a sinful state, unable by any action we might take, to avoid the consequences of sin.

God provided a means of salvation from the consequences of sin.

We must trust not in ourselves but fully in Christ alone as our Savior and Lord.

If God credits our faith as righteousness, He will put us into Christ, who saves us from the consequence of sin.

Everyone believing into Christ shall not perish but have everlasting life.

No mystery and no paradox.
