Here in Syracuse, the State tore down the St Fair Grandstand - and then help pay part of the 50 million dollar pricetag to build an
amphitheater adjacent to the Fair grounds.

Then NY spent another 50 million dollars on improvements at the St Fair.

Wealthy arts patrons? This funding supported the development of the arts in the U.S. for everyone. If you want us to be a country that doesn't support classical music, painting, the theater, etc. then just watch your football games and say that's it. I for one appreciate the arts.

Since we are 20 trillion in debt - we need to do a lot of cutting!!!
If money was available - that would be another story.

Yes, wealthy arts patrons. Have you been to see the orchestra? An art museum? Gone to the theater lately? It's not cheap.

Look up the social profiles of the people that are active in the arts community. Most of them are wealthy. Why should taxpayers support their passion?

The country should have no role in supporting the arts. Individuals may do so voluntarily.

What does the federal government or the Constitution have to do with the arts? It is the government's job to protect its citizens, not paint silly paintings or support ice skating and ballet. What a waste of money. Our nation needs skilled craftsmen and women to rebuild our infrastructure. For those that like to look at painting, see Broadway plays, and keep up with what the movie stars are doing, spend your own money enjoying it, not mine.

Yeah, I don't see what the big deal is in abolishing this funding at all - it was appropriated by an act of Congress in 1965 and has had its day. It's easy to argue that the culture of 2017 is far inferior to that of six decades ago.

I'm also in favor of gutting PBS - with the gadzillion cable channels out there now, PBS isn't necessary anymore. Axe it.
