    Sorry ... paronomasia is a play on words ... a pun. However "pun" usually has a light hearted humorous context so I didn't use it here ... And the AV is too hard to understand ... :D :D

    Warm Christian greetings!

    I'm not sure I'm too happy about the adverse comments on "The Old Rugged Cross". It may be a little sentimental in places but it has wonderful Gospel theology in it that I find heart warming.

    Kind regards,

    Robert J Hutton

    Most all Christmas songs have VERY bad theology in them [notice I said MOST,not all}
    If I'm singing a song that I don't agree with on theology, I kinda switch the words. Such as on "Jesus Loves Me", where,on the 3rd verse it says "if I love Him when I die, He will take me home on high." I change it to "if I'm saved when I die, He will take me home on high." That may not be theologicaly correct either, but it is an improvement.
    By the way, what's wrong with "The Old Rugged Cross"?
    I'm not sure I understand why it is considered "crossology". With out the cross for Jesus to die on, we couldn't be saved.
    Just wondering...

    Good points by SavedByGrace. I also alter unscriptural words of a popular hymn on occasion. I know of a church who's pastor hands out a quiz during a service at christmas time. It is given after his congregation has been singing many "christmas carol" hymns during the christmas season. Not one of his members has ever scored 100% even though he gives the same quiz every year. The poor theology in hymns is significant. Many revised hymns and hymnals have revised certain doctrinal truths, "the blood" for example.

    I also agree with Ernie, that we ought to give more attention to living in obedience to the word, than we do. These are both thought provoking considerations.

    Finally checked out the missions song I can't stand.

    "So Send I You"

    . . . to labor unrewarded, etc. Makes it sound like life on the mission field is the worst possible excuse for an existence any Christian could ever imagine.

    I don't deny that missionaries make sacrifices, but the missionaries who've influenced my life most are those who overflow with joy and love for the opportunities for ministry that God has given them.
