Northport Baptist Church here - although it's now located in East Northport. It did start in Northport, though, and it moved the 3 miles away a batch of years ago (in the 60's I think).

While not a Baptist Church, there is a Flaming Fire Church of God not far from here, with a sign of painted flames. Another old church near hear was named Hell Creek Baptist, which has long since ceased to exist.

There is a little church in the North Georgia mountains called Dewberry Baptist Church No. 2.

I am always amused when I pass it.

I have also seen Poplar Stump Baptist Church (on Poplar Stump Road) and Wahoo Baptist Church. Waaahoooo!!

Although it is not a Baptist Church, there was a Holiness church not far from me located on a by-pass. Yes it was By-pass Holiness Church. If many churches would be honest, that would be their name too.

When a prominent member of the downtown FBC in town visited Little Hope BC out in the country, he asked why they had such a pessimistic church name.

"Because we hold out Little Hope for such high falutin' folks as y'all!!" was their reply.

Then they went on to suggest that Brother PM of the d/t FBC make a motion at his church's next business meeting that they include the COMPLETE text of the verse that had been boldly emblazoned in granite over the church's columned entrance way.

"After all, it only seems natural that since y'all do believe in the plenary inspiration of the Word of God it'd only make sense to include the remaining nine words of that verse which were spoken by Jesus Christ Himself, now wouldn't it?

"Who knows, we then might stop holding out such Little Hope for y'all!"

Armed with such forthright and encouraging words, Brother PM [who just happened to be the chairman of d/t FBC's Finance Committee] one week later boldly stood up at Downtown FBC's next business meeting and with no hestitation got a second to his motion that the remaining nine words of our Savior also be included; in fact, he'd even PAY [out of his own funds!] TO HAVE BRAND NEW GRANITE BLOCKS with the rest of that verse on it just to prove to the world how transparent we truly are around here at d/t FBC!

Motion almost carried too -- had it not been for one dear old saint who actually knew his Bible.

The verse in question? A citation from the KJV of Matthew 21:13:

"MY HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED THE HOUSE OF PRAYER"

There are a couple over in Africa (Not SBC but AOG and NON- DE) Like -
    1. Church of His Holy spit.
    2. Church of the sacred spittle
(I would be worried about needing a raincoat to enter one of these) :tongue3:
    3. Church of the holy mud.

I actually heard the names of these church on TBN. They were talking about the different things going on in these churchs. It was about 2 to 2 and a half years ago, and I don't know if they are still around - maybe (one ran about 5000 people they boasted). But still... well, I don't know what to say beyond :praying:

This has nothing to do with the name of a church, but this was on the sign of a church.
A sign showing the sermon topics for morning and evening services.
Morning services: Jesus walks on water
    Evening services: Searching for Jesus

This is not a joke. I actually saw this at a church on Marsh Ave. in Dallas.
