    BTW Craig;
    I don't believe being Baptist and millenial exclusion and KJVo are synonyms.

    Of course being educationally elitist doesn't help either.

    In HIS service;

    How about the dually aligned churches in TX (BGCT/SBTC) are they conservative in the am and liberal in the pm or vice versa?

    BTW, we are BGCT and very conservative!

    The reason I think many are dropping the name Baptist is that they want to appeal to an unchurched world that any demoninational name is seen as a negative. Our church still has the name Baptist in it, but I would support renaming it for that reason.

    I can think of several churches I wish would remove the title Baptist from their church name.

    Our pastor of just a year, and the people he has brought with him have been talking about us changing our name since they got here.

    Our church is over 100 years old. It was named, in the beginning, the way many Baptist churches were named, for the street it was on. Such and such street Baptist Church. I am proud of our Baptist heritage (even if we did finally switch denominational affiliation from ABC to CBA).
    They say that any denomination name confuses people who are unchurched. That may be so, but if a Baptist moving into the area were looking for a church, they would be glad to see that name, don't you think?

    Many have removed the name Baptist from their church name because of the negativity associated with the name Baptist in some areas. Too many Baptists have been known for anti-RCC publicity and infighting within their own ranks.

    I have known pastor's with no formal schooling that were very well educated... and pastor's with degrees whose book learning could not cover their lack of godly discernment and faith.

    "Academic standards"? What would you have done with Spurgeon?

    The terms "Baptist" and "denomination" should be mutually exclusive.

    I would say that your priorities are in the right place. Our job is to serve and glorify the Lord and reach the lost... not to perpetuate a label.

    Posted by Craigbythesea: it is Baptist behavior that they are disassociating themselves from—especially bigotry and a judgmental attitude. But of course the errors of KJOism,

    There you go again Craig!

    You just love blaming everything on KJOnlyisim. We are bot bigoted. We are discerning. We are judgemental because we are told to be in the bible.

    I will say that I have found you to be anything but a baptist. So PLEASE remove the name from any church you belong to.

    One Sunday morning after church I took my shotgun to the sign out in front of the church and totally obliterated the pejorative word “Baptist.” That Sunday night we had standing room only in the church and scores of people either got saved or recommitted their lives to Christ. The following Monday the church elders had the sign repaired while the neighbors stood and watched and jeered. During the Wednesday night prayer meeting we prayed for the church elders to get saved. :D

    :rolleyes:

    I would not be too proud of the large crowd you built for yourself by appealing to the wisdom of this world if I were you.

    Joseph,
    Don't you think Craig was making a funny? or at least Satire? Pointing to our futile attempt to slow down Father Time.

    Joey,

    How did you know that I am that guy on television that your aunt Gertrude watches on television every Sunday morning and every Sunday night? I thought that the only people on this message board who had discovered my identity were those folks living in Belgium who watch me on the giant televisions in the stadiums.

    :D

    Craig,

    Do you have any other response to scripture other than insults and sarcasm? That is very telling about you.

    I know of a SBC church in Spokane, WA, that changed its name from Pines Baptist Church to Valleypoint@Pines -- to try to reach more of the younger, computer-savvy people.

    If it works, I am for it. If fewer people come to know Christ, I'm agin it.

    'Nuf said!

    I am here defending my Baptist heritage and the true Baptist values that are very precious to me but that are being eroded away Joey Faust, Zane Hodges, the KJO gang, and a bunch of judgmental, bigoted creatures that have disgraced that heritage and convinced many that “Baptist” is a four-letter word that cannot appropriately be applied to a Christian organization.

    Craig,
    I apologize for being so insulting. Obviously we come at being baptist from opposite directions. This can no doubt be irritating. I disagree with almost everything you say but that doesn't give me the right to attack and insult you. Please accept my apology.
