This government has already decided that right wing conservatives are the enemy. I expect before it's all over, there will be true persecution and not waterboarding, but far worse. Christians are being persecuted all over the world, considered the enemy of the state. Is your passion for them, as well?

The "waterboarding" / torture debate is a smoke screen put up by the Republican and Democratic parties to distract the American people from the fact that our constitutional rights are being violated on a daily basis by both parties. The Patriot Act is a violation of the United States Constitution! Give it time and it will be used against Christians to silence us. This is why we should never give government, Republican or Democratic, new powers. Every power the naive Republicans gave to Bush they also gave to Obama and every future president. Land and others need to wake up and be more concerned about this than what happened to a bunch of murderous thugs at Gitmo.

I've never really understood Richard Land. Sometimes he seems to be on track other times it looks like he has run off the tracks and crashed into a river or something. I suppose that is what happens when people are too concerned about how they will be perceived. It's days like this when I really miss the clear spoken Jerry Falwell. He was never afraid to tell it like it is even when that meant offending people. May God raise up another Jerry Falwell. Better yet, may God raise up an entire generation of Jerry Falwells. Jerry Falwell was good. D. James Kennedy was good. They were men who had their hearts in the right place and their thinking was balanced but not perfect. We need bold folks like them to help direct our unity and power to impact our world, but we mustn't loose sight that God is our leader and it is through his holy spirit and our submission to him by which we are led. These noble leaders were still human and not perfect, and neither shall any human leader ever be. Let us pray for each and every one who has the willingness and boldness to speak the truth even as they did their best to do...... and hope that God raises up his banner in people who will help us in the direction of this righteous and spiritual fight. But it will serve us well to remember that if God raises up men to lead the direction of the fight and to help steer our priorities....... that they are still human and flesh and we each must do our part: Not only praying for God's direction in their leadership, but also for God's direction in each of our lives...so that where they fail ....... and fail they will at some point......that God will give us insight to not only to continue to support them by prayer and other means in their battle, but also to lead us in those areas in which God chanllenges us in the absence or failure of their leadership in certain areas.

Maybe you should research the history of waterboarding and not assume it is always done the exact same way.

Richard land has always been more interested in being "liked" by the powers that be. He is an embarassment to Baptists, and has been for years. What a compromiser.

Well the Taliban and Iraqis generally kill captured Americans. The North Koreans and Vietnamese tortured their prisoners, some to death. The Japanese prison camps had a 50% mortality rate in WWII. The German prison camps had a 10 % mortality rate during WWII [American prisoners]. The German SS was a different story but don't have any numbers. Can't say about the Russians but they, and the Chinese, murdered millions of their own citizens, similar to what we are doing now with the American Holocaust.

I do not see how one can be a Christian and possibly condone torture. The two quite simply do not go together and I applaud Dr Land for his comments.

If you're going to say waterboarding..... as it has several forms, some only menacing and uncomfortable and other forms which can be life threatening..... then be explicit in your definition.

Including the Japanese is a good idea. Sure, Allied enemies have tortured and killed POWs. If they had simply waterboarded them in the form used by the US, would we be ok with that since some folks do not consider waterboarding to be torture?
