Baptist The Only True Religion?

I am a Baptist myself, but I am wondering if there are people that feel that Baptist is the only way to God.

This is a bit disturbing in that when "cult-like" characteristics are listed one of them is something like "They feel that their religion is the only way to God."

Obviously all the pagan-esque religions are out, as well as catholicism (to some), and a few of the other christian religions.

My most basic question is this:

Can you still go to heaven if you are not a Baptist, but are saved?

Absolutely not!!!!

Jesus Christ is the only way. Baptists do not have a monopoly on that market, nor are they remotely infallible.

Yes. Most saved Christians are not Baptist.

Man is who made denominations. God made us all and gave us the Bible to know Him and His expectations, His love for us, and how to have eternal life, which is through His Son, Jesus.

So anyone that picks up a Bible and believes by faith that Jesus died for us because sin seperates us from the Father, that He was buried, and that he rose again are saved. No matter what religious affiliation you belong to.

So, IMHO, it does NOT matter if you are a Baptist are not. Praise the Lord!!!!!!

Absolutely. I've heard of this belief before, but honestly I've never personally met a Baptist who believed it. (Maybe I've just been lucky.)

I'm sure that when some Baptists reach heaven, they will be surprised at the folks they didn't expect to see; and perhaps more surprised by the absence of folks they expected to find there.

1 Cor 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body;so also is Christ.
The body of Christ is made up of many believers ( members)to include Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Pentacostal, Charismatics, and all the others that call on the name of Christ,
The Bible says we need each other and we are not to deny the weakest of the body that might not seem so attractive to us.
God knows where to fit each and every believer and knows where he is best suited and that is , in my opinion, is why we have denominations, some like to be emotional some like to be quiet some like to baptise by emersion and some like it other ways, but the main thing is if we all love Jesus and call upon his name and are born again, then even though it seems we are divided, we are indeed as one wheather we wish to believe it or not. That is what the Holy Ghost is for and he knows all and helps us fit into the family,.

I have been Baptist all of my life and have never heard that we think we are the only way to heaven. Are you maybe confusing that with Chirst of Christ?

I really already knew the answers to the
question(s) I had posed, I just wanted to see what others thought of this kind of thinking. For me I believe that I am Christian and the Baptist is just the fine-tuning.

One thing troubles me and so I have another question. Is there a main reason why many Baptists have split from the SBC? I am thinking it could be just over the convention thing they do. Do we as Baptists suffer from extreme pride? There's just so many splits and somehow I think people forget that you will *never* find a church that you will agree with 100%.

I can understand splitting over salvation, trinity, baptism, etc., but for stuff like a convention, or your clothes?

Don't mind me y'all I've just got some stuff wandering through my mind and am just trying to see what to do with it! Duh az...pray! =o) Thanks for your patience!

The reason people have split from organizations like the SBC is because those organizations have failed to remain true to the Word of God.

I left an American Baptist Convention church 40 years ago as a lost but baptised church member. They had allowed liberalism into their schools and denominational structure. When I became a believer, I had to separate from that wrong doctrine and wrong practice. The doctrine of separation is as important as that of the bible, the trinity, virgin birth, etc. Baptists historically have practiced biblical separation when their churches and brethren strayed from the truth.

The Church Age is a history of biblical Christians striving to maintain a pure church. Yes, sometimes personality and wrong attitudes have been a part of that struggle, but we should never condemn a true believer who is trying to do what is right!

While that quote is initially amusing, upon further reflection, it's somewhat holier-than-thou, and we Baptists shouldn't go down that road.

Why not? On what position is the Baptist faith inferior to others? The Baptist faith, as has been historically understood and not the attempts of the left to take it over, is superior to every other belief on every issue.

I think it is all too obvious that Baptist doctrine must be the closest thing to the doctrine established by our Savior. Otherwise Satan would not be working so hard to dilute it. (It seems everytime two Baptists disagree they split and start another baptist church . . . Regular, Missionary, Southern, American, United, Separate, Primitive, 1st Baptist, 2nd Baptist . . . and so on.

No group is perfect, but if I find one that is closer in doctrine and polity (church government) and distinctive than the generic group we call "Baptist", I will join in a heartbeat.

Until then, I will use the generic term "Baptist" and (sadly) have to modify it with "historic fundamental" and "reformed" to be sure I'm not confused with the liberal ABC that Circuitrider spoke of, the CBF compromisers being purged from the SBC, and some of the IFBxtreme looney-tunes that are going on in "baptist" circles.

We're thankful if any baptist IS saved!

We need to take a stand against error, especially in doctrine. Some "baptists" bear the name but wallow in terrible theology. I could wish they would just change it.

Example: 1840's a group of Baptists followed Pastor Miller to sell all and wait for the second coming. Formed a commune, lost their money, but not their faith in a new slant on prophecy.

Finally they abandoned the "baptist" moniker and called themselves "Adventists". Honesty would ask some other extreme "baptists" (like our milennial exclusionist or kjvonly) to PLEASE get a different name.
