Baptist Theology?

Hello,

I just now noticed that this Forum area is called Baptist Theology & Bible Study... I didn't realize it was Baptist Theology and Bible Study, but I assume the intent is to be God's Truth in these matters yes? I don't know what types of theology there are, systematic, and Biblical, apparently, are two types, I don't know these things, as I was going to say this would be Biblical Theology wouldn't it, but apparently that might mean something different than I meant.

Bottom line, are people here limiting themselves to only post things that fall under the Baptist category, whatever that really means, or as I hope, but we are all posting what we believe true in our individual and collective endeavors to grow and follow God's truth, not any other type right?

Thanks

There are many types of theology. Biblical Theology examines the text of a specific book or writer. Historical Theology examines theological beliefs throughout history. Christology examines Christ, Theology Proper is a study of God the Father, Pneumatology looks at the Spirit....and so on.

Systematic Theology relies on Biblical Theology, Historic Theology, philosophy, and extra-biblical sources (like histories) to develop self-contained doctrines using Scripture as a whole.

The Baptist Theology & Bible Study is simply a section of the board for discussing Scripture and doctrines among Baptists (non-Baptist members cannot post in the section).

Ok, thanks, since I believe in baptism by immersion and baptism after one wants to obey the call to repent in John the Baptists day, or the gospel today, I think I count for the purposes of this forum. Sorry just my nagging anxiety.

You will find at least two very different theologies routinely posted on the Baptist only forums, The Calvinist view and the non-Calvinist view. They are radically different and mutually exclusive views.

The reason is there are General Baptists, who are not Calvinists, and Particular or Reformed Baptists who are Calvinists.

Normally when we talk about a Baptist theology we are referring to a particular one (like SBC, Free-Will Baptist, Missionary Baptist, Primitive Baptist, Reformed Baptist).

But for the BB Forum it just means meeting what it is to be Baptist. All of those individual "theologies" can be discussed in the section.

It is better to do that in this section rather than in the broader "Other Denominations" forum because we all accept certain Baptist doctrines.
