Being a former drug user didn't hurt George W. in his bid for the White House.

Isn't Illinois (his home state) a fly over state?

I'm not sure if this has been addressed yet or not...what has Barak Obama done? What legislation has he worked on and pushed through the senate over the last 2 years?
Yes, he gave a great speech at the 2004 DNC Convention...but what since then?
Personally, i wouldn't vote for him because he is way too far to the left IMHO...but to not have a proven track record to support him makes him even less of an option i think.
    Sharp...yes. President...no.

Dems are where Republicans were 8 years ago - tired of a two-term president and longing for any old suit that would do. There's still a long time between now and '08. Obama is the flavor of the week. Wait til some of the other rising Dem stars make their intentions known. There could be a wagon-load of candidates. Some will be also-rans, but it's as wide open as who will run on the GOP ticket.

Obama is indeed a charming, popular choice, anointed a bit at the '04 convention. However, remember that the Dem's keynote from '00, Rep Harold Ford, Jr. from my state of Tennessee, was thought to have presidential markings (very much similar in personality to Obama) until scandal rocked other politicians in his family and to a lesser extent, him. He's made a good race of it against moderate Republican Bob Corker for Bill Frist's seat in the Senate. Right now, it's a statistical dead heat. Unfortunately, Ford has turned to some desperate measures to try to turn the tide.

One person the GOP can probably forget about is former rising star Colin Powell, who sullied his reputation for his ill-advised plea to the UN in the run up to the invasion of Iraq.

I doubt that his reputation, sullied or not, is as big a problem as his poiltics.

I agree with Obama on nearly all of these. I believe he would be an exceptional candidate, and one I would seriously consider.

If you're a Christian that supports the murder of the unborn , same sex marriage, and racial discrimination, then Obama may be your guy.:tear:

Since you only seized on racial discrimination to have a problem with my statement, that must mean that , even as a Christian, you favor murdering babies and support institutionalizing homosexual "marriages".

Obama may still be the guy for you as long as you can check your Christian values and Biblical teachings at the door to the voting booth and pick them back up on your way out the door.:praying:

    That's convenient.

Exactly correct, the same way you check your Christian values at the door to be a republican.
