WASHINGTON -- Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said Thursday she will not run for re-election in 2016, after months of speculation on what her plans would be.

Boxer, 74, made the announcement in a video that was sent to supporters Thursday morning. The four-term senator appeared in the video alongside her eldest grandson, Zach. She said that neither her age nor the fighting in the Senate played any role in her decision, and she will continue working on the issues that matter most to her through her political action committee.

"I'm going to continue working on the issues that I love," Boxer said. "I'll have more time to help other people through my PAC for Change community, I have to make sure the Senate seat stays progressive -- that is so critical -- and I want to help our Democratic candidate for president make history. But you know what? I want to come home.

Now if we could just get the other 99 to do the same thing.

There are no words that can express the joy I felt within when I read this OP! The only problem is, this far left state has many more far left liberals just biting at the bit to jump into the ring and take her place. I don't hold out hope for a Republican to fill her shoes.

But, then again I still believe God works miracles!

Probably the next US Senator from California will be Michelle Obama.

Yay! My former senator is hanging up her boots in 2016. Rumor is Babs wants to help Hillary in her campaign in two years, but DiFi remains . . . the mayor of LA is reportedly interested in replacing Boxer.
