He died a young man (50’s). I can only imagine the stress of continuous death threats to him and his family took its toll. He must have truly loved playing baseball.

peace to you
he also had to face a discharge issue while still in military!

I thought they were recognized as major leagues since around 1970, when they starting naming a number of their players to the Hall of Fame. As for records, I do remember reading many times that most of them are not official, and indeed many that exist included barnstorming games, which were exhibitions. There would probably be too much conflict about computerizing it into how, for instance, if Satchel Page had pitched to Joe DiMaggio 200 times how that would have affected DiMaggio's batting average and Page's ERA; or in general how both the white and black league records would be lessened if the sport had been integrated all along and the best played against the best.
There seems to be many urban myths around the negro league players, as Satchel paige was said to have won like 40 games a year, and that Josh Gibson smacked 70 home runs!

Because the Negro Leagues were more fluid in their membership, the HoF will probably go more by the team than the actual league. More than likely it will go with teams like the Kansas City Monarchs, the Birmingham Black Barons, the Homestead Greys, et al.
