Seven saved in Japan in three years is a wonderful record. Praise God!
The proverb is famous. And the group based culture is true. Often a person will reject Christ out of fear of the group: family, school, neighborhood, work, etc.

Thanks, John for adding that perspective.

Seems to me I read of another missionary who labored for twenty years before his first convert. Can't remember the name. Does this ring a bell?

I'm not sure who that would be. I do have a bio of a missionary to Algeria after the war who didn't see anyone saved for years. He then led one man to the Lord, but the man's Muslim family tried to poison him, and the Muslims were so vicious to him that he eventually committed suicide. But later that missionary had wonderful success in the Lord, with some young people being saved and becoming the nucleus of a church.
