That is what my Eastern Orthodox & Catholic friends say regarding their beliefs~that they are "pre-denominational". Coming from an anabaptist background (mennonite, but in a baptist church for about 4 years now) it's easy to look at a thread of the remnant throughout history, though I don't particular follow the "Trail of Blood" idea. Yet to say there are no individuals to trace back to baptist beginnings would be a bit misleading. Anabaptist/Radical Reformation is often pointed to as a foundational start of modern baptists, and Conrad Grebel et al were the rebels against Zwingli's half-hearted reforms~they wanted more, especially believer's baptism.

This seems reasonable but I don't believe that Baptists per se have to establish evidence of a tradition outside of the Testimony of the Church found in Acts of the Apostles.

I'm currently doing a study on Acts and I find it very challenging to understand how traditions like infant baptism could have gained any grounds within the Church when it appears to contradict the early Church recorded in Acts.

    Brother James and Tom Butler

18And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Which local body of believers is Jesus talking about here?

Im sorry, but I just do not agree with you at all. And I dont think scripture supports it either. The idea that I as a true believer and you as a true believer are not somehow connected in the church that Christ started just does not make sense to me. Certainly, we are not in the same local body and certainly there are passages of scripture which are directed to very specific local bodies of believers, but Christ did not say he was building his churches. He said that He was building his church. One church. Christs Church. Christs Bride.

    Anyhow..

I really dont claim to know anything about baptist history. Im here looking to get questions answered. I started out life as a baptized Catholic infant and was raised as such until I was saved in highschool, where I attended a charismatic church, and kept attending until about 4 years ago, when we started attending a Southern Baptist church. They were light and fluffy and we didnt learn much about baptist history or why they believed the way that they did. They were more like a typical non-denominational church than a baptist church. Now we are in an independent fundamental baptist church and they have some very strong stands and beliefs, and IM trying to find out why. I'd like to read some history, because its true that the popular stuff out there doesnt give them very much history at all. I'd like to see where they came from.
