Being a Christian

Without doctrine we do not know how to live it.

I counted on you giving an unthinking answer. So, I will help you think.

As my friend, Natasha from the Ukraine, wrote recently:

I am tired of those who would fight over "doctrinal truth" but don't know how to love people that God brings into their lives (including the homeless person that is walked by and ignored, the prostituted woman that works a few streets away from where they live/work/play, the elderly neighbour there is no time to greet, the lonely, the lost, the sad, the broken, the rich, the poor...) I think Jesus had the name "Pharisee" for such persons... always interested in the letter of the law, and the rationality of the law, and what the right thing to do is biblically... but with no heart for people and no love lived out. I wish such persons would not use the name "Christian" as it puts people off the church and Christianity in general.

As my friend, Natasha from the Ukraine, wrote recently:

That quote has nothing to do with what I said. How many drunks have you personally put a sandwhich in their hand?

How many drunks who wreak of urine and can barely stand up straight have you put your arm around only to later smell just like them?

Have you ever lived on the street with them as one of them?

Have you ever been a drunk or a druggie?

Have you ever, as a pastor stood up to your church members who did not want then to make a mess on the church pews so they could come in out of the winter cold?

Have you ever layed into your chairman of deacons because he yelled at the homeless drunks and told them to go get a job?

Have you ever spent more than a year day in and day out ministering to Navajo families who have just had loved ones who committed suicide?

Have you ever cut a man down out of his closet who just hung himself?

I have. I suggest you take you assumptions and check them. It is you who posts without thinking and most often in the most heinous of dishonest ways. I feel sorry for you.

Your whole post, CTB is predicated on the false assumption that loving people and preaching doctrine are mutually exclusive. They're not.

Crabcrap's god must not want his followers to study and show themselves approved, you know, like ours does.

I see the selling of cheap grace abounds on the Board.

At the final judgement, as recorded in Matthew, how many doctrinal questions are ask of those being judged? None!

How about how we treated others. Well let's see ... :

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,

Show me how you treat others and that will tell if your doctrine is correct. Doctrine that does not lead to living as Christ commanded is dead and useless.

Rev. probably more than you suspect.

So you are condemning doctrine using doctrine.

Not at all. I am saying that doctrine, beliefs, that do not bring about change in a person's life, that do not manifest love for others is dead doctrine. And I mean agape love whereby we extend grace, help and care for others.

Doctrine that requires nothing except a "I believe" and requires nothing more is dead and false doctrine. It is not true Christine doctrine. It is cheap grace doctrine.

Pharisee. You have no idea how I live. Christ didn't tell us to hide behind the anonimity of the internet and tell lies about him. When you lie about scripture you are showing hatred. The teachings of Christ without his death and resurrection are worthless.

Yes.

Did Jesus give the rich young ruler a list of beliefs or did he tell him how he should change his life and give to others?

Hah ! In your example, Jesus tells the man that's he's not good.

Are you going to tell me that Jesus told him selling his possessions would bring him salvation ?

Jesus is showing the man how fruitless his works are to him. Our righteousness is like filthy rags. You got this passage all wrong.

The rich young ruler refused to change his beliefs such that he would follow Christ's commands and help others.

Works do not save, but as James said, "Faith without works is dead".
